Why I am buying Skyrim

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 10:58 am

I was replying to a thread which literally disappeared as I hit submit... lol O-well, here are my thoughts anyway.

I bought it months ago. Just waiting on delivery.

I have neither seen nor heard anything, so far, that made me question the purchase.

Ive been actually putting some thought into the question of why I am buying, and I wanted to add to my previous bland answer.

1)Bethesda is one of the last developers/publishers that I have any real faith in.(DICE, Rockstar North and Valve are the others) In the last 2 years, I have stopped supporting Bioware, Bungie, Activision, EA(except for DICE) & Obsidian. That doesnt mean I wouldnt buy their games. I would buy them used and with excellent reviews ONLY.

2)Oblivion & Fallout 3 were bloody amazing. Oblivion was the first great game for the current generation of consoles and Fallout showed that Bethesda cared very much about the opinions, desires and critiques of their fans.(although bethesda has been showing that for years, this is when I noticed) Fallout was the continuation of what Bethesda had learned starting from Arena. Fallout was a test bed of new ideas, tweaks and fixes since Oblivion. Skyrim will be a response to Oblivion/Fallout3, as Oblivion was a response to Morrowind and so forth.

3)Bethesda's TES/Fallout series is pure bang for your buck. Just using Fallout 3 as an example. I played over 250 hours. So... $60 new game plus $20 for 2 expansions that I bought is $80. Thats .32 cents an hour, not bad. Oblivion was a similar situation. From what I understand, Morrowind & Daggerfall were the same for most that purchased them. Hell if I pretend that I only bought my 360 for Bethesda made games.... Lets see, $500 for new 360, $80 for Fallout & $60 for Oblivion, 500 hours of Bethesda fun.... Equals about $1.28 per hour... Nice!

4)Skyrim is looking great. I know many have been a bit miffed about some of the upcoming changes in Skyrim, but I have yet to hear or see anything that troubles me. Alot is due to the fact that Bethesda really seems to pay alot of attention to what the fans say and do(mods). To be honest, until I feel like im getting the short end of the stick, I will buy what Todd Howard is selling. Thank goodness Howard isnt Molyneux(whom i would love to meet) in so far as BULL CRAP HYPE is concerned. Its funny cause when you hear Molyneux talk it sounds like he is trying to sell you a car. But Howard actually sounds like he is talking to a fan.

5)I SAW THE TEASER TRAILER AND ALMOST CRIED! So I had to give Beth my money as soon as possible. lol (also the way things are I wasnt sure I would have the cash on the day of release, but I had it on the day after the announcement... so not a very hard choice to make)

6)I think its an rpg with dragons playing in the snow or something... MEH, good enough for me. :chaos:

I thought Obsidian did wonderfully well wth NV. What exactly have they done?

I know I'll get flamed for posting this in a Bethseda Fan Hotzone, but never fork over your money just because of brand loyalty and a few flashy images.

Nah don't worry, I know EXACTLY what you mean. I used to be a fan of Need For Speed... says it all lol (they got it right for the last 3 games though)

But oh well, I'm a fan, AND a fan of taking risks. So no matter what, I'll preorder it soon anyways

I'm one of those people as well. I don't get the hate on that game.
