Help with Installation Wrye Bash and .exes

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 10:17 pm

Hello. Recently, aided by the thoughtful advice of many here, I finalized my mod list (see below) for my first true run-through of Oblivion. Since, I've downloaded all the files and converted them to .omods (when possible) and got them into Oblivion Mod Manager. The next step, as I see it, is activating them and using Better Oblivion Sorting Software (BOSS) to determine the load order. Then I need to create a bashed patch with Wrye Bash. And, finally, I need to run the game via OBSE.

If any of the above is incorrect, please let me know.

Several questions remain:

First, a number of the mods I'm interested in loading come in .exe form (quest mods, Bank of Cyrodil and Streamline). My sense was that I could not convert these to .omods. Should i just run the .exe before using BOSS?

Second, while I have a little familiarity with Wrye Bash, and I've read some of the lengthy documentation, it's still a little unclear as to what steps I should be sure to cover to ensure that my game runs well. I'm familiar with the Merge Patches, Import Graphics and Levelled Lists functions, and a little less so with tagging and other features. Are there certain settings and/or tweaks I should be sure to adjust? Anything else I should be sure to educate myself on?

I don't know if it makes a difference (and I avoided any mods requiring it), but I do not have Shivering Isles.

And, beyond the above, I welcome any other tips or advice. Thanks very much.

Re the exe files: Get 7zip, and right-click a\on the exe files, and extract to a folder. Rearrange the files in a BAIN-friendly format (or compress to omod using OBMM), and then install.

Tag all the files that are listed when building the Bashed patch. The only exceptions to this rule are OOO (when using FCOM), which should not be checked in certain options (check the FCOM thread opening post for more info here).

PS: Does Less Annoying Magicka (LAME)require SI? Or is it Integration? Check.

Thanks for the tip re: .exes. I'll do that.

I am using OOO, but not FCOM (no MMM, WarCry, etc.).

LAME doesn't require SI (I did have to include an optional No-SI file for one of the add-ins) , but Integration does.
