flying as a dragon in skyrim!

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:33 am

here is a list of potent arguments to believe we'll be able to become a dragon and fly, somewhere later in the game!

1. todd answered positive to ign's question about the possibilities to ride dragon's though he added; "not in the way you think"

2. you're absorbing dragon souls, but it has been a well guarded secret as to what purpose it will serve…

3. it is confirmed you'll be able to breathe fire…now in first person in human form, a breathing-fire-animation starting from the mouth would be just strange, it's not like it's a fire spell launching from the palm of your hands that you can target…nope, it would be straight from the mouth, which would be strange, though i can see it happen when you're in dragon-form (i think there will only be a third "person" dragon form)

4. the map can be zoomed in and out, so it proves a lot of work has been done on the Y-axis…would this really only been done for a map? …or is there more…something like moving vertically…

5. when you're later in the game and lots of things have already been visited in human form, a whole new world of hidden/non-accessible places would open up to your dragon-form; high peaks enough for that!

6. 7000 stairs is a lot! would there really only be one way to access the top…only to realize you have to step down all 7000 back…transforming into a dragon at the top, would be very handy!

7. it has been done by another rpg during the skyrim development, namely Divinity 2: Ego Draconis

8. to fight the mighty Alduin in his huge dragon form, wouldn't it be logical to become one yourself?

9. what IS the true meaning of "dragon-born"? …

now, can all those points be coincidence? :)

Same guy who said "not in the classical sense" about spears, which aren't in.

2. you're absorbing dragon souls, but it has been a well guarded secret as to what purpose it will serve…

No it hasn't, they've said openly and repeatedly that absorbing these souls is what enables you to learn Dragon Shouts.

3. it is confirmed you'll be able to breathe fire…now in first person in human form, a breathing-fire-animation starting from the mouth would be just strange, it's not like it's a fire spell launching from the palm of your hands that you can target…nope, it would be straight from the mouth, which would be strange, though i can see it happen when you're in dragon-form (i think there will only be a third "person" dragon form)

Don't see where fire from your mouth would be any stranger than from the palm of your hand.

4. the map can be zoomed in and out, so it proves a lot of work has been done on the Y-axis…would this really only been done for a map? …or is there more…something like moving vertically…

No reason it wouldn't "only be done for a map." Wouldn't be the first game by a long shot to do so and only use it for that reason.

5. when you're later in the game and lot's of things have already been visited in human form, a whole new world of hidden/non-accessible places would open up to your dragon-form; high peaks enough for that!

Or they could just have a brilliant climbing mechanic they're saving to wow us with later.

6. 7000 stairs is a lot! would there really only be one way to access the top…only to realize you have to step down all 7000 back…transforming into a dragon at the top, would be very handy!

One word: "Skiing."

7. it has been done by another rpg during the skyrim development, namely Divinity 2: Ego Draconis

Damn good reason not to do it.

8. to fight the mighty Alduin in his huge dragon form, wouldn't it be logical to become one yourself?

Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe the way to go is to be so small you can hop onto his head, run down in his ear, and carve your way to his brain.

9. what IS the true meaning of "dragon-born"? …

It means you have a dragon's soul. And the body of one of the 10 playable races.

now, can all those points be coincidence? :)

Yep. :P

Way to be a bummer Alois. But on topic, it'd be awesome to go all Malificent on some random Bosmer.

Polearms are, which is what I think he meant by "not in the classical sense". No spears, but something like spears.

No it hasn't, they've said openly and repeatedly that absorbing these souls is what enables you to learn Dragon Shouts.

Apparently none of the demo viewers knew this, because they all said it was a secret. And I thought you learned the words for shouts from Word Walls?

Don't see where fire from your mouth would be any stranger than from the palm of your hand.

That's exactly right. If you breathe fire with a shout, and you can use every other shout in "human form", then you can breathe fire in human form. That's not really odd at all.

No reason it wouldn't "only be done for a map." Wouldn't be the first game by a long shot to do so and only use it for that reason.

Plus dragon NPCs fly, something which no Oblivion enemy does. Vertical work would have had to be done for those, not necessarily for the player's ability to fly. Also, there are things called mountains which we can climb, in case "rim my sky" never heard of those.

Or they could just have a brilliant climbing mechanic they're saving to wow us with later.

I hope so.

One word: "Skiing."

Bonus word: "Jumping"

Damn good reason not to do it.

Indeed.

Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe the way to go is to be so small you can hop onto his head, run down in his ear, and carve your way to his brain.

If it was as simple as turning into a dragon to kill him (or carving him with a sword) we wouldn't need a main quest to lead up to it.

It means you have a dragon's soul. And the body of one of the 10 playable races.

Yep. :P

Pretty sure Todd already said that we won't be playing as a dragon. I think it was on the IGN Q&A.

See what I did there? ;)

You learn the words from the walls, yes. And per an earlier interview/release, in order to be able to learn the words from the walls, you must capture dragon souls.

1. no you learn dragon shouts from walls and bearded men on a mountain top (also all todd has said is that the dragon souls will give you some sort of boost in the game informer coverage)

2. well fire from your mouth is new but if done in a different way then a spell then i could see the point in a fire shout.

3. agreed this is not a reason to speculate

4. or you can just walk it and stop [censored]ing (god if it was to easy to scale MTs ppl would to [censored]!)

5. Two words " sounds fun"

6. agreed that was a [censored] game (i played ten minutes at a friends house and was with no suprise bored out of my mind)

7. yeah a lil God of war action would be nice

8. duh (lol) everyone who cares should know that

I hope we dont become dragons, sounds like to big a task to pull off polished and completely fun for current console cycle, maybe a half dragon thing... maybe

I'm surprised no one's mentioned yet that in the interview on Spike Thursday night, one of the questions asked was, specifically, "Can we become a dragon?" and Todd's answer was no.

So there you go. No becoming a dragon.

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2011/01/20/skyrim-s-dragon-shouts.aspx

Upon defeating a dragon, Skyrim’s hero absorbs the soul of the fallen creature, which fuels his ability to learn a new shout.

I was thinking about this as well he said not in the traditional sense as riding a dragon as you are the dragon makes perfect sense to me.

As big a fan of OB as I am, and as much as I am anticipating Skyrim, I'd have to admit that Beth will have completely "jumped the shark" if we are turning into dragons.

I agree, and I think it's the ultimate aspiration for being dragonborn and there being dragons. It would be the greatest reward for playing the 'missions.' Not only could you fly. You'd also not have to be a person. It'd be infinity of grandiosity.

As far as I remebered said Todd in the GTTV Interview we won't be able to turn into a dragon.
Dunno if someone already posted it, just got up and I'm still a bit tired so that I just flew over the thread -not as a dragon^^

But I'm pretty sure someone will mod it in, if not, I will do it myself! Just imagine how cool that would be^^

i think todd wouldn't confirm such things to geoff, it's part of their traditional dance, geoff guesses things and todd shoots them down even if they're true with the exception of one thing or other.

as for me, i'd like it if we had a shapeshifting dragonshout (it's in the lore that dragons shapeshift to disguise themselves, the reverse may also be possible)

but it has to be one of the last things to be acquired in the game, maybe a dungeon only unlocked in the later stages of the game, filled with enemies with their level fixed a level 50.

ps: the camera in the first part of the trailer, even though it was made on purpose to be cinematical was pretty much how i'd imagine it would be playing as a dragon in first person view.

I aalways had a hunch thet towards the very end of the main questline, you will be able to transofrm into a dragon. After hearing about how dragons don't really breathe fire and such, they speak their magical dragon language or whatever.

Wouldn't be surprised if dragons are all a bunch of intelligent mudcrabs "fooling you".

Perhaps it IS wishful thinking, and as others have said maybe unlikely, but now that you've got that idea in my head...!
I'd love to be able to turn into a dragon in the middle of a fight and tear someone apart - who wouldn't?

or a aerial dog fight with another dragon, then turning into normal mid air to stab the opponent on the back on the neck, riding its carcass to the ground.
