Something to make magic a bit more fun

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 11:04 pm

I'm not sure if such a mod exists, but I'm looking for something that will add a bit of zest into the spells the game has. I find that what i currently have for a magic mod is good for balancing (Supreme Magika) I really want to add in a bit more...interesting things.

Like, for example, have you noticed how when a bandit gets hit with a fireball they just don't care? Or when someone get hit by shock (and don't die) they just keep on truckin? Or how hurling a massive snowball spell doesn't make anyone cold?

Wouldn't it be fun to cast a spell that lifts someone up and violently shakes them? Or how about hurling a boulder and watching the bodies fly? Summoning...oh I could go on for hours about summoning. Why limit us to the undead / ghosts / daedra / SI creatures? Summon a bear with a bad attitude! How about a plague of rats? Killer rabbits anyone?

I could go on and on...and I'm sure now with all those ideas there's no one mod that does all that. But how about some fun mods that get close? I've looked at Hilarity, and it's on the right track, but I need more twisted fun. (Maybe I should just learn how to make spells like that)

You might want to take a look at this mod, it has many very nice spells. :)

Midas Magic (as mentioned)
Less Annoying Magic Experience (Has a lot of additional summons including nature, SI, and such... Also has a hypothermia spell that makes NPCs take off their clothes)
Fearsome Magicka
Audacious Magery
chargeable spells
Conduit magic
etc.

I would list offsome other magic mods like "Hilarity", and such but after a while with Spell adding mods there starts to be a lot redundancy and mismatched balance between the spells. Thats why most of the mods I mentioned are more about making the magic system more interesting as opposed to just adding spells.

I've played with Midas Magic, and quite frankly found making the spells to be annoying, mostly because I 1) didn't want to keep looking up / remembering ingredients and 2) most ingredients were pretty rare and only found in special areas. Now I don't mind going on quests to find special things, but Midas took that a bit over the top, in my opinion. If there was something more along the line of "Hey, read this book for clues to find special / evil / insane mages that may send you out on a quest to earn the right to learn from them" kind of deal, sure, I'm all up for that. Magic is something you learn, not something you create from some gold, a fig leaf, and a cross-eyed newt tail. That's alchemy!

LoL. :D

In that case the only other magic mods (Beside the ones mentioned by phoenix1213.) i can think of are these then.

The quests to get the spells require certain offerings, which are plant and animal ingredients...BUT they are just to offer not to make the spells, ones you offered the requested ingredient and if you meet the level requirements then you will be rewarded with a new spell by the two gods.

With this one there is a Tome some where in Benirus Manor that will grant you 14 new spell which have requirements so you will not be able to use them all right away.

Spoiler
In order to get to the book you need to buy the house and then do the quest to clean the house of that lich. The book is hidden in the room where you find that lich.

Supreme Magicka has Destruction Spell Effects, so enemies hit with frost, for example, have a chance of being slowed down or paralyzed. Or scared or blasted away by fire. Check the ini. Deadly Reflex also has elemental effects and they work fine together with SM's. An enemy has a chance of being frozen by frost spells, for example, and then you can shatter them.
