Morigah's wedding quest bug

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:58 pm

Hey, I need help with a bug which causes the letter from the king of worms to disappear in my inventory when i fast travel to wayrest. When i got out of the barrow of scroug, i fast travelled to daggerfall by mistake.. meaning the letter was still in my inventory since i didn't fast travel to wayrest, and i saved in daggerfall. Now, whenever i fast travel ANYWHERE the letter disappears, so i can't just fast travel to a nearby place near wayrest and go there by horse.. i've tried everything i could think of.. i tried fixsaving all my saves, i have patch .213 installed... i even tried using the speedcheat + Running to try and get to wayrest from daggerfall.. i found out even doing that it would take me several hours :P. i have a back-up save but that would mean repeating some FG quests and losing some items..

i also heard about this bug on another thread.. but i don't think it got resolved, any help would be appreciated, such as a new fix for this bug or anything.

Have you tried to just talk to Morgiah anyway? I don't know if I ever checked my inventory for the letter, except for once when I "used" it to see what it said. I was still in Scourg Barrow at he time, so that may not have any bearing on your situation. But what I can tell you is that over multiple runnings of the same quest, Morgiah has always accepted my return properly.

Yea, i should've mentioned i only realised i had this bug is when i fast traveled from daggerfall to wayrest to speak to morigah, i activated her but she wouldn't say anything, so i reloaded, fast traveled to wayrest.. and then i realised the letter went as soon as i arrived there. Also.. while writing this i tried a second time with going through it as noraml.. it didn't work.

I've run into bugs with Morigah before and i don't think it's at all uncommon.
You'll probably have to use a utility created by Donald Tipton called "THAW" or something like that to reset the quest.
I can't say if that will break any other quests however.
This information might be on the UESP wiki, not sure.

THAW can be found here:
http://andux.svatopluk.com/
On the left.

From THAW:

Thawing a Main Quest
THAW will restart one of the seven subplots from the main quest in Daggerfall.

You can use THAW to recover from inadvertently saying No to the wrong NPC at the wrong time. Or to revive a subplot which won't start for some reason.

The command line syntax is shown below:

thaw slot# aSubplotName

where slot# is a number between 0 and 5, corresponding to one of the six saved game slots, and aSubplotName is one of the seven main quest subplots from the following table:

Aubk-i Cyndassa Elysanna Helseth
Lhotun Medora Morgiah

Case is insignificant.

Note that THAW is indiscriminate. It will always restart the requested subplot, even if that part of the main quest has already been successfully completed.
Installing THAW

If you unpack THAW into a directory different from the Daggerfall game installation directory, you must tell THAW where to find the saved games to operate on.

If you use a Windows shortcut to launch THAW, make the working directory in the shortcut the same name as your Daggerfall game directory.

Or, you can add the TES2 symbol to the environment to inform THAW where to locate the saved games you want to edit:

set TES2=aDirectoryPath

where aDirectoryPath is the name of the installed game directory for Daggerfall. E.g.

C> set tes2=g:\game\dag
C> thaw 4 elysanna

Thanks, it looks like this should work.. but when i start up the program it quickly closes itself again.. i assume it's because of it being DOS.. is there anyway to get it running in DOSBox? i tried with VDMS Sound but it wouldn't let me type anything..

I've never used THAW, but my guess would be to run DOSBox, navigate to the folder where THAW is (..in ...\DAGGER??), and then run the program from inside DOSBox by entering the command thaw slot# aSubplotName

Yep, thats why I keep multiple saves, Save on one, a little late, save on another. (I have 3 different slots of saves, it might go up to 6 )
