Description

Solve a fairytale-like mini-quest, gain a lovely medieval-style manor.

It was love at first sight when I found Stroti's wonderful modders resource "Ravenhorst Manor", and ever since then I have wanted to make a medieval style player abode with a fairytale-like quest.
The Red Rose Manor is the result of ten days intense work.

The Red Rose Manor is located on a hilltop on the road between Weye and Skingrad. But, in order to gain access to it you have to talk to the female mages at the Skingrad Mages Guild, who will know more about the house and about the secret it has been holding for more than hundred years...

The Red Rose Manor is lore-friendly and furnished in medieval keep style. Apart from the main cell with mainhall, master bed suite, attic and basemant, there is also an additional underground cave with a natural waterpool suitable for swimming. The mod also includes two display-cases and 101 non-respawning containers (many of them "mini-barrels) as well as one respawning trash-bin and three respawning wool barrels..

New in ver 1.1
- added a hedge with flower-shrubs in the backyard
- added an enchanting station in the attic.
- in addition to the companion keys (see below) there are now also companion amulets, this in order to make things smoother for those who use keychain mods.
- adjusted some pathgrids.
- added little "shelves" at the windows on second floor; hopefully this will keep the planters from falling down.
Several new interactive features:
- you may use wool from the wool barrels (respawning) to make your own yarn at the spinning wheels.
- you may use yarn to make your own cloth bolts in the loom.
- you may use any cloth bolt (not folded cloth) to sew your own outfits by using the equipment in the Sewing Kit Chest in the attic close to the wool barrel.
- you may make your own coffee from the coffee bin in the kitchen next to the bread tin.

Companionfriendly

The manor is fully path-gridded and has five persistent beds (one doublebed and four singlebeds). On top of that, there are two bedrolls that you can activate and de-activate. I.e. you can live here comfortably with up to seven companions.
In a small chest on a drawer in the attic you will find "companion keys". Put a key in your companion's inventory, and this will give the companion additional options. You will be able to tell the companion where to go in the house, or to take a walk outdoors, or swim in the underground pool, or to do some small tasks for you (like sweeping the floors, raking the garden or collecting ingredients).

Special Features

The manor includes the following facilities:

- you may make your own soup in the cooking pot at the main hall fireplace.
- you may bake your own bread in the bread tin at the main hall fireplace kitchen area.
- you may litght/turn out the fires by clicking on the watering cans placed next to them.
- you may make your own alchemy potions by activating the mortar on the alchemy desk in the attic.
- you may make your own spells at the spellmaking station in the attic.
- you may repair your equipment by activating the basemant anvil.
- you may make your own wine in the basemant winemaker.
- you may pour beer and wine from the kegs in the basemant and in the main hall. Please use the appropriate pitchers and tankards for this purpose.
- you may heal and cure yourself on a daily basis by praying at the altar on the drawers to the left of the fireplace in the master bedroom.
- you may teleport to the major cities in Cyrodiil by activating the statue in front of the mirror in the cave below the basemant. In order to use the teleport facility, you will have to find the hidden magic crystal ball.
- you may activate/deactivate the two extra bedrolls in the attic if the beds aren't sufficient for all your companions. The yellow bedrolls are placed at one of the walls.
- you may give your companions additional orders while in the manor. In order to do this, make sure that they each carry a "companion key" which can be found in a small chest on a drawer in the attic.
- daylight will automatically vanish during the night hours.
- the containers are non-respawning, with two exceptions: the "Companion Key chest RESPAWNS" in the attic and the "Trashbin RESPAWNS" barrel in the basemant.
New in ver 1.1
- you may use wool from the wool barrels (respawning) to make your own yarn at the spinning wheels.
- you may use yarn to make your own cloth bolts in the loom.
- you may use any cloth bolt (not folded cloth) to sew your own outfits by using the equipment in the Sewing Kit Chest in the attic close to the wool barrel.
- you may make your own coffee from the coffee bin in the kitchen next to the bread tin.
- you may make your own enchantings at the enchanting station.

COBL-addon

I also made an add-on for those who are using COBL.

The following COBL-features have been incorporated:

- The Luggage - is located in the attic, next to the stairs, but is only available if you have found the original Luggage in Anvil.
- Alchemy sorter - is located together with the alchemy desk in the attic.
- Grinder - is located on the alchemy desk.
- Two dinnerplates are placed on the dinnertable in the mainhall.
- One of the kegs in the basemant will give water if you are using a survival mod.
- both the basemant well and the well in the garden will give water if you are using a survival mod.

Install

Just drop the bsa-package as well as the esp in your Oblivion/Data folder. Don't forget to check the mod when starting the game!

Yeah i do like it ingame as well, although i hat to laugh a bit when i saw my current character standing front of the alchemy station...seems that her race is even smaller then i thought. :D

Although i have to admit that the alchemy station is big anyway, but i think that it is how it's been made. And even though it is big i like it so it does not really matter. :D

Vilja just got a new home...

+1 - Aleswell is now our country home, Red Rose Manor has taken over from Hoarfrost castle as primary house. Loved Hoarfrost ( Emma probably remembers some slightly embarrassing screenshots on CanadianIce & Howndogs place - When Vilja had a tendency to sleep with a lit torch in hand resplendant in garments from tona's mod store :) ), but Hoarfrost was always a bit buggy.

My youngest has already taken residence in Rose Red Manor, and loved the quest story. Thank you Emma, amazed to see this was completed in 10 days, amazing work (considering during that time all your other house mods also received an update).

We have one question ...

Spoiler
What does the sphere of life do?, we know we need to find a crystal ball of sorts, but this seems not to be the one

PS - Did you know ...
Spoiler
You can walk into and through the mirror, just a tiny cave behind it but I'm not sure this was intended

Ooh... yes, the desk looks big by comparision with your character. But I actually do believe it's the same size as the desks in the mages guilds. I haven't thought of it before - my character is rather tall.

Thank you :). I'm sure she will like it - when I took her there, the first thing she said was actually: "This is SO beautiful". And she can go swimming in the natural pool in the cave whenever she wants!

Oh yes, I do remember those screenshots - maybe you had to leave Hoarfrost after she set the whole place on fire? I mean, smoking in bed is dangerous, but bringing a lit torch to the bed...

I'm glad that the rest of your family likes Red Rose Manor, too... in fact, my kids, and especially my daughter (who actually released her first house mod today on Nexus - Blue Moon Cottage) were involved in the little quest, which, I guess, reminds of certain fairytales.

As for your question:
Spoiler
The sphere of life is just there for decoration - Aurora tells you specifically that it's not the one in the attic. You'll have to search elsewhere

And as for your PS
Spoiler
No, I didn't know that! The mirror is a static, made out of an Anvil castle painting, so Im a bit surprised that it was possible to walk through it. I never tried, I must admit, and neither did the testers. Well... it doesn't lead anywhere so I guess there's no harm in it...

Actually this is not your mod ....
Spoiler
In the cave where you go to find the key, this sphere of life you get two choices when you go to pick it up, Either Pick up or Shatter it, I wondered because you did not associate the name of the sphere with the location where we found it, if it was part of Phitts artifacts we have not discovered before :) ... Just had a look http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=29931]and it is part of that mod. Yey, I was wondering if we would ever find any of those.

LoL yeah last night your new house proved to me that the race of my player is just a very small race. She is only slightly bigger then one of those Chairs in front of the dining table, i just never before noticed this because the houses she used before where simply shacks or just furnished with simple common wood furniture. :)

So it was not because it was to big but because she really is that small, so i apologize for mentioning that before. :)

Oh no worries :). It must be intriguing to play Oblivion with such a small character - must feel like the enemies are twice as dangerous! :)

Just downloaded and tried the house yesterday - outstanding work! A very nice abode even for my big, burly Nord char - a good place to relax after running around for the whole day in full heavy armor... :)

Thank you, Emma, for a very nice addition to my game!

Thank you :). I'm so glad that you like it.

Povuholo, yes, the plants on the walls are definitely very unique - first time every that ivy has been successfully merged with roses
In fact, I have done this myself in nifskope so you haven't seen it anywhere else - I've been using the standard ivy (albeit darker) and a modders resource with rose flower bouquets.
The red and peach-colored bushes in front of the castle is also something I have messed with in the CS, simply recoloring an existing tree.

This mod has now been upgraded to ver 1.1, with the following news:

NEW ADD-ON: Vilja in Red Rose Manor

Description
===========

If you are using my Red Rose Manor and have http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1165923-relz-companion-vilja-ver-30-thread-no-9/page__st__80 by me and CDCooley in tow, you might want to use this add-on. It adds new dialog to Vilja - dialog that will only be available while you are in Red Rose Manor or in the area right outside it - and it also gives her a number of new things to do while you are staying in the manor. Among other things, she will take up painting, and if you let her paint ever so often, she will now and then actually complete a new painting that she will be happy to decorate your home with (not as many as in the Aleswell add-on, though, as there aren't many places in the manor that I find suitable for the purpose). She will also help out in the garden, bring you a bottle of beer, go shopping and actually return home with some goods. And you can ask her to sit down with you at one of the fireplaces or at the dinnertable. A number of tasks she will also perform spontaneously, without you having to ask her. These occations are based on random 100 and will probably not happen every day.
She will also have additional pvssyr and comments related to the manor, and if she is with you while you are doing the quest for the manor, she will comment on this as well.

Install
=======
Just drop the bsa-package and the esp-file in your Oblivion/Data folder. Don't forget to check the mod when starting the game! And don't forget that you have to run both the Red Rose Manor mod (ver 1.0 or higher) and the Companion Vilja mod (ver 3.0.1 or higher) in order to use this add-on!

Incompatibility
===============

None that I know of, but please read the caveats below.

Caveats
=======

The raking animation will stop working if you leave the cell where Vilja is and then later return to her. She will then just be standing there. This, I assume, is because the ai-package is added to her via a scripted token and doesn't exist in her npc-ai-inventory. Also in some other cases the scripted tokens and her original ai-packages will be struggling with each other. Occasionally, you will find that if you ask her to sit down with you at one of the fireplaces, she will now and then raise up, say something and then sit down again. This seems to be related to which ai-package she originally should have been performing, so it happens at some hours but not at others.
If you try to summon Vilja while she is doing a task that places a temporary scripted token in her inventory, you won't be able to do so. You will receive a message about this, but the message is slightly irrelevant, as it refers to things that happens in the original Vilja-mod. The reason for this is that I cannot alter the original Vilja for this add-on - I have to use work-arounds, and that's why I have re-used a scrip-condition to prevent the game from crashing if you summon her while she has a temporary token. I will attend to this with the next version of Vilja.
Red Rose Manor only consists of one cell with two entrances, one main door and one balcony door. Sometimes, Vilja's AI isn't sufficient to make her choose the right door. Also, npcs aren't aware of the Z-level, which means Vilja doesn't know if she is on the balcony or in the garden. In order to prevent problems, some of the instructions you can give her are only available either outdoors or indoors. Trust me, it is for good reasons! It isn't that fun looking at her trying to climb up from the garden to the easel on the balcony, well, maybe the first time, but not later. So you can for instance only ask her to go and paint when she is indoors.

If you run into any kind of odd behaviour you should be able to sort it out by talking to her over the topic Red Rose Manor again, as that will remove all tokens related to this mod and set all variables to 0.

Many thanks. :)

Wow, that was fast working, nek-12 :). I'm glad that the manor is now also available in japanese.

Yes, I love the manor so much that I of course couldn't resist doing something special for Vilja there. (Besides, she was grumbling over that I didn't pay her much attention during the two weeks I was working on the manor). ;)

Return to IV - Oblivion
