Item Text Colours

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 4:22 am

Looting is great, it made me feel amazing when I looted rare equipment and weapons in Oblivion. I don't know why, it just brought the child out in me.
Now I did play World Of Warcraft for a little while, say 3 months, but I purposely stopped playing after I noticed that it's making my social life deteriorate. But let's admit one thing the game is good, and the looting system is extremely good and exciting, infact all the rare equipment is mainly why most hardcoe WOW players still play it.
Now apart from the huge amount of items in WOW, I want Skyrim to have one thing that WOW has...........Coloured text for items.
You know what I mean, green for rare, purple for super rare and Blue for extremely rare. Now I don't know if there the right way round or whatever, but I want this in Skyrim.
I don't know if they have gave any information out about the looting system or the items In Skyrim but this would give me such a buzz if I came across Excalibur or Saurons Mace or Sword Of Ra or Necklace Of Territory or even a rare book like Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince, you get the picture?
Now I doubt these are not going to be in this game but that would just be so exciting seeing that come up in a chest at the end of a cave or in someones corpse.
P.S Does anyone know anything about the looting system or the items in Skyrim, if so please state below. Thank you
(Sorry for spelling Color the English way as I am British) ^.^

Not a bad idea I guess, I certainly wouldn't mind with or without colored text for items.

How about let's leave the asinine color-coded names and categories for the action dungeon crawlers like Diablo and Dungeon Siege, eh?

Eh, I don't think it would feel right in skyrim. Let me see the stats and the enchantments, and I can figure out what my best equipment is.

Yea, I don't think Skyrim will have enough super rare loot to even warrant a system like this anyway.

No - all other factors aside, it's not great for people who are colour blind or have certain types of visual impairment, and I think it's important to make games as available as possible regardless of those types of impairment.

Actually yea now that I think about it I dont think this(colored text is necessary, and regarding what Epona222 said, he/she makes a great point in that video games should be as available to all people as possible, and this colored text would be a disadvantage to people with visual impairments.

The idea is great and used greatly in games like Borderlands. But I dont think TES needs it.

And what loot is ultra-rare is already catalogued: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Tamrielic_Lore. :D

No thanks to the color coded items. Color coding just takes away one more thing the player should do....look at the stats and realize if it's good or not. That's one of the things I hate about WoW, people see purple and they are like "OMG, it's an epic! I haz to use it!" even though the weapon might be worse. Same goes for when someone sees "heroic" on the weapon and replace their weapon even if your current weapon is better. This will just cause more lack of thought about your character and it's unneeded imo.

I just want it in a font, color, and size that is not a pain to read after a bit of playing. Eye strain is an awful, awful thing.

Doesn't seem right... I don't usually like to say something is immersion breaking, but, I think it would be.

I hate that in MMORPG's. It's stupid that there are 'levels of rarity'. I want to decide myself about things like that, not have the game tell me.

Colour coding is necessary in games where you can't readily distinguish your items abilities by looking at it due to unclear inventory icons, Sword of type names, etc. These things don't really apply to TES. Does it have an unique name alá Goldbrand, its an artefact; is it Sword of , its a generic enchanted item where the prefix points out the level and suffix points out effect; the rest are distinguished by their material class, for example ebony is better than iron.

Generally, the name kinda tells you if its rare. And I prefer to pick my weapons based off of my own preferences, not the color of the name.
