[RELz]Animated Window Lighting System - Thread 7

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 12:06 pm

Another update, which I'll keep separate rather than amend my last posting.

We had accepted a Leyawiin Fighters Guild contract to recover a stolen Gem from a nearby ruin. Having done so we traipsed back to Leyawiin for the turn-in. We entered the city in broad daylight. (It had rained earlier, but by then all was clear if slightly overcast. As we were about to enter the Fighters Guild hall I chanced to look over in the direction of the Mages Guild. Its windows were fully lighted. Not dimly but at full glow. No other building had lit windows.

I saved the game inside the Fighters Guild hall, exited, posted the first two paragraphs of this update, reentered the game, left the Fighters Guild, and .... nothing. The Mages Guild hall windows were properly unlit.

This is an odd one for sure. Might well be some quirk affecting only me. I'll keep at eye on things and report any further developments.

Yeah, I don't think it's anything wrong with AWLS. I sometimes have this happen to when I do lots of testing and weird installs of AWLS for developing. I guess the script and engine gets confused or what not. Mind you I also never bother waiting or doing clean saves because I'm just testing things.

The Leyawiin Mages Guild windows are lit ok for me, although I would say that the windows in Leyawiin are a little dimmer in general. In particular, the church lights aren't very bright. I wonder if it has something to do with the cell settings for Leyawiin...

AWLS window lighting is uniform across all buildings. However, the real light sources around buildings will definitely impact how bright windows appear. This can sometimes be very noticeable where one side of a building will have windows that appear very bright and another side will have windows that look a bit dull. That all is normal.

Bravil Blood & Mud, Merwyn the gravedigger's house contains a small replica of the cathedral. And, of course, the replica's windows are lit up at night along with all the real windows. :)

Not a big deal, but it would be quite a clever replica whose windows lit up and extinguished in time with the real thing, don't you think?

Is there even a way to address this? If not, I can certainly live with it.

He would have to create a custom mesh for his replica. I get the same thing with my miniature ships in Imperial Furniture Renovated. I just shrunk the original meshes, so they still use the default for the windows, which AWLS replaces. Personally, I like the effect - I think it looks really cute on the ships :D I just like to think there's a candle in there that I diligently light and extinguish

You get the same from the small replicas of buildings used as display pieces in Nascosto Isles and I think it looks cool. In a world full of magic and monsters, is it really out of place for something like that to be possible?

Good point, Arthmoor. In the gravedigger's case, it adds a mysterious bit of whimsy to the character, especially considering the rest of his house contents. :)
