Reading weOCPS Logs

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 7:26 am

Okay. I will drop the sound issue. No more silly talk about a damnable bell.

I tried for 3 hours to make a crash at the intersection of Red and Blue, I ran back and forth engaging with any and all. The only thing might be different is I got no Partner/Companion. I even went and threw weOCPS.dll in my plugins folder, still no bells nor crashes.

Fenton is actually a vanilla Legion mounted patrolman. He patrols the Blue Road between Cheydinhal and that ruined fort where Blue connects with Red. He is normally nameless. There is, however, an option to give vanilla Legionnaires individual names during Bashed Patch creation/rebuilding. That's where "Fenton" comes from.

As to you not experiencing crashes or DINGs, I'm not surprised. I've had weOCPS installed from the get-go, have over 1000 hrs invested in this play-through, and never before experienced it either. Well, not the DING. I've of course crashed (black-screen) traveling from IC to Cheydinhal. But then I've probably crashed almost everywhere at one time or another. I'd say that section of Cyrodiil is normally less crash-prone than most, being very lightly modded.

As to the exact DING spot, it was a little ways east on the Blue. (The intersection itself was okay.) Once you turn on it the road slopes upwards almost immediately. There are two huge boulders flanking the Blue on the right-hand side before reached slope-top. It was, I believe, at the first boulder (headed east) where the DINGs all happened. I think Fenton would have to be in a certain spot to experience one. In any case I sort of think the whole thing might be a fluke peculiar to my installation. Gonna keep an eye on it and will report any repeats or new observations.

For some reason, "Fenton" is not named for my game, and I use that Bash tweak you mention. I didn't try go up the hill, rather kept going along Red Road. I will play with it some more, maybe I can have a crash :P I haven't had one in such a long time...lol.

I hoped take a break from this, and am to an extent. Only, I was combing TES Alliance earlier this evening for possible mod ideas. I noticed they house VOILA, one of my installed legion-centric mods. Of all such mods I run it is the one I'd pick as most likely to alter vanilla Legionnaires. I re-read the mod's update history. I quote from its most recent Change Log:

Version 0.7 :

Over a dozen new Imperial Legion soldiers of various races patrolling the streets of Cyrodiil province
Several new Imperial Legion foresters with dogs
Squad (company) system for both existing and new Imperial Legion soldiers
Revamped A.I routines for all original Imperial Legion riders
Viera Lerus (Bravil Guard Captain) now becomes a proper guard

Back I went to TES4edit. Loaded all mods. Looked at both VOILA esps. Sure enough, several A.I. Packs from the "VOILA - soldiers of the empire" esp reference 0018ba9a, which is Fenton's RefID. The two I noticed are 2D1788A and 2D1788B. Clicking the "referenced by" tab for either found script 2D0087E9 "VOILA Riders Company". That's one BIG script. Tons of Global References. At least one of those again points to good old Fenton. During all this I noticed nothing obviously amiss. Then again there is a LOT to look at. I might have overlooked something. In any case I'm no expert at this.

Seems odd that VOILA somehow altars Fenton yet typing his Form ID in TES4edit finds only an initial Oblivion.esm entry and his Bashed Patch entry, which seems to give him his personal name.

Not sure any of this means a thing. Food for thought if nothing else.

Could be getting injected if Bash can merge any of it. Glad you found the culprit. If the script is that big, could be that causing the freeze. I get a slight lag around that intersection from loading AI just from the PTRoam mod and WAC (which adds some optional highway traffic and just uses Vanilla AIs), anyway...adding VOILA the way you describe it...

The only link I could find for VOILA was in french, which I don't speak or read. You could use the CS Extender to clean the script up...? If not, I'm sure someone peeking in this thread could bust out some script cleaning. Could be as easy as a missing ")", etc. :glare: Know what I mean? ^_^

A problem with VOILA is that it's not on Nexus. You can get it at either PlanetElderScrolls or TES Alliance. I shouldn't give the wrong impression about the script I looked over. It's not so much overcomplicated or bloated as simply complex. VOILA does a LOT with patrolling legionnaires. They travel in groups of varying size now, and stop for breaks at Wilderness and City Inns. There are added patrolling Legionnaires of different races and classes. I understand the mod has other benefits which apply more to those who follow less-than-honorable professions. I wouldn't know, having no interest in that sort of avatar. It normally behaves quite well. Not sure why Fenton caused those recent DINGs. Maybe he's been bugged all along but always before caused a crash rather than a DING? I disfavor that theory, since the Blue Road (Fenton's beat) has never been more crash prone that any other area, and is of course less likely to crash than some highly congested/modded areas.

VOILA is using that huge script to do addscriptpackage calls on several legion soldiers. It's a somewhat clever way to bypass the need to edit the NPCs directly. None of the AI packs available in VOILA contain NULL targets though. At least not that are visible in tes4edit.

You might wan to ask Scruggsy if he can update that DLL he gave you to report the AI pack that has the NULL target along with the NPC.

Oh, sorry. Yeah, I took a break from it, both to relax and just play the game and to handle a real-life semi-emergency that cropped up.

The disable / enable trick seems to have let me continue on DING-free. My guess is that it is a temporary reprieve rather than an actual fix. I fully intend to do more investigation. I still have the saves that will produce a DING, so can start up again at any time. My next step is prolly to follow Arthmoor's advice to ask scruggsywuggsy for a further modified OBSE dll. Might do so within the next day or two.

Thanks for your continued interest in this. Your input helps keep me focused and provides food for thought.
