Breaking Items

I was thinking about the realism effects of the game like for instance you were fighting a guy in a forest and your sword slowly gets damaged and when you blocked his attack it breaks. Like showing a little animation of it snapping in two what do you guys think.

Well, I think that sounds pretty cool. In Oblivion, they sort of do that, but not with the cool animation of the sword breaking in two. Your weapon just takes "damage" over time, and if it is not repaired, breaks, making it unusable.

But I agree, if the weapon were to take enough damage, then it would be pretty awesome to see it shatter...

Ooh, imagine the shock on your face when a weapon breaks on screen! In movies everyone is like "Oh no! WTF?!"

It would be awesome to see. If the hostile's weapon breaks then they should make some frustrated comment, or express their opinion on their crappy gear.

I'm going to set up a mirror next to the monitor, can;t wait to see my face when my weapon breaks in an important moment.

I would probably do the same thing.

If you played Far Cry 2, the guns in the game would tarnish over time and eventually blow in your face :D
I was actually like "WUUUUUUUT?!" when my AS-50 exploded in smithereens leaving me with the guns body and pistol for backup ;F

What would also be cool is if you could still fight on with the broken weapon. I mean, if your sword shattered and you had no other weapons, would you really resort to your fists? The broken sword would still be a better choice - think of how Isildur in LOTR used the broken sword to cut off Sauron's finger...

This is a great idea, and you hear the loud clinging of the weapon smashing to the ground. I also like Glorious's idea of being able to fight with a broken weapon ^.^ just like in LOTR.

It risks being annoyingly easy to break things. If the tendency of objects to fall over is half as bad as Oblivion I wouldn't want to be randomly breaking stuff all the time by walking into it.
