How can I make a computer capable of playing Skyrim for arou

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 9:57 am

I'm also looking to order a custom built PC, as I'm not currently able to build one myself. If anyone knows a reliable place I can do this, please let me know, even if it's via PM

Anyway I'm trying to get a computer with decent specs, so I can play games like Skyrim, Diablo 3, possibly Duke Nukem. I haven't paid attention to advances in hardware within the past year so I'm pretty out of the loop when it comes to the best technology for your buck. Computer experts, your suggestions are welcome!

Yes you can and for a lot less, esp if you already have a monitor. But don't but a custom one, that will cost alot. You can just get a cheap emachines or something then upgrade, that's not much work.

Skyrim's being developed for the current generation of consoles (Xbox 360 and PS3). Oblivion was also on these consoles, so basically if your computer could run Oblivion good 5 years ago, it should be able to run Skyrim fairly well now.

Why are you not able to build one yourself? It's just a case of buying components and slotting them all into the motherboard which you have secured to the case with screws, then put in a disk for the operating system software, even a novice can build a computer in around 3-4 hours with a decent set of instructions. It's pretty much impossible to insert a component in the wrong place. Of course I take that statement back if you have a difference/impairment that makes it a less viable option for you. But unless that is the case, you can save a couple of hundred $ by building it yourself.

Hell it might run it better, OB was not optimized well hardly uses more than 1 core.

No, don't just buy a cheap one and upgrade it. Find a knowledgeable friend to help you build one from scratch. You'll be able to put it together pretty damn cheap if you know where and when to look. Honestly, Fallout 3 scaled fairly well in comparison to Oblivion. The Creation Engine is designed to work on the same hardware as Oblivion and Fallout 3, since they're (unfortunately, I say) focusing on the Xbox 360 version as their primary build. PC will get more high-quality effects and textures, maybe a few extra goodies if they get some DX11 stuff working, but you could run it on a fairly old system if you had to.

Get a new rig. Initially, you may be able to play it well. After installing mods weighing 3x more than the game itself, you will cry for a new PC :F

If he won't build one, thats a cheaper option than buying a custom one. And you can get some absurd deals that way, cheaper than getting the parts by themselves.

This may be part of your problem.

The other part of your problem is that Oblivion (I'm assuming this is what you're playing and not, say, Daggerfall) is very much CPU bound because it only makes good use of one of your cores. You could have pretty much any graphics card from the Nvidia's 8800 on up and it'll run about the same.

Use http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23208 if you aren't already, that will clear up a lot of stutter (most of which has little to do with actual hardware). If you don't have a dedicated sound card you should 1. Get http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15942 and 2. Get a dedicated sound card already you caveman. Get a low poly grass mod too, grass is a terrible resource hog. I use http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=33403 at setting 2 and "Short" length. Looks better than the original and runs a lot faster too.

You could also always try overclocking your processor more :flame:

And next time just post in the Oblivion Hardware section, this is for Skyrim discussion.

You could probably build a computer that can run Skyrim at max settings for about 600 if you already have a keyboard/monitor etc...
