mountain problem

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 10:13 am

The mountains in Skyrim look huge, and if we cant acess them because of invisible walls or somthing then I'd think large portions of the map would be taken up making the world smaller than it looks. The mountains would make cool enviroments to explore and have great views. If anyone remembers hearing the people behind Fallout: New Vegas saying "its about the same size as Fallout 3" anyone who has played FNV knows its drasticly smaller than FO3. And when i hear Todd Howard say that skyrim is about the same size as oblivion I get a little worried. So I really hope the mountains are acessible and not big chunks of scenery taking up the map.

Well Todd already stated months ago that yes, you'll be able to travel up (and sometimes in) the mountains, making the game world, in fact, seem larger.

I know we'll have to travel up one mointain for sure, High Hrothgar, Throat of the World with the 7000 steps but Im pretty sure thats part of the main quest. I really hope you're right about the world seeming larger

One of the very first things they probably discussed was making sure they could do this region justice without invisible walls.

My hope is that creature animations and movement will look natural on all this mountainous terrain. Four legged critters looked particularly bad on hillsides and whatnot in Oblivion.

Personally i think FNV was just a filler game... aka a time waster. maybe to hold us over for a better game... skyrim is that better game i guess ^_^ ether that or there on a new fallout game that isn't just a glorified expansion.

anyway on topic: yea there completely accessible like so many people said before me. in fact didn't he already confirm that its all accessible?

Yeah I remember them saying that a while back in an interview.

I always thought that Fallout 3 was a way to test ideas for Skyrim! (loved Fallout 3 though, don't get me wrong!)

I read a journalists preview of Skyrim from a couple days ago and he mentioned something to the effect that "The view distance is completely astonishing and all the mountains that you see are live and have to be crossed over to proceed". I don't remember the exact words or the source but all I know is that when I read it I breathed a heavy sigh of relief that the pretty mountains were not just a backdrop... Keep on keepin it real gamesas....

Fnv was project done by obsidian entertainment not bethesda...they were a company that didnt know the engine too well and cut alot of corners in the games production...u can say its a glorified expansion i guess...but that doesnt make up for the crazy detailed narrative they had and the fact about how deep it was...good story just the developer did a cookie cutter job from fallout 3 on an old engine...ANYWAYS yes skyrims mountains are completley explorable except for the edge of the jerral mountains since that goes into cyrodil...Obviously...

I know about obsidian, some of them worked on the earlier fallouts and stuff then got given a chance by bethesda to make another one, a mistake but whatever I still bought the game. And yeah the story was probably the best thing about FNV. Cool was just a bit worried but now It seems pretty obvious that mountains in skyrim are explorable.

I hope we can go all over these mountains with no invisible walls anywhere(except the border of the country I guess) and on that note, Slow Fall spell please.
