You know Blu ray even holds way more than this new disc with an extra 1gb, right?
Aye. 25 gbs for a single-layered disk, 50 for a dual-layered... so much unused potential... :sadvaultboy:
I think it might be too late in development for them to adapt plus we also have to factor in the PS3 and the PC.
No we don't. The PS3 uses a Blu-Ray format, so it's good unless Bethesda wants to release a game over 10 times Oblivion's size and PCs can just go with the old route of having multiple disks and installing them. Just out of curiousity, though, is the 360's disk format really so limited as to limit Skyrim's content to any noticeable degree? Is a hard drive currently a standard feature of 360's so they could release two disks while allowing one to be installed onto a 360? How have compression techniques advanced since Oblivion's release? Taking into account the obviously more detailed textures and more diverse audio of Skyrim (supposedly... with all the new voice-acting and all, though the lack of unique dialogue to individual NPCs may make some space), should the limited size of the 360's disk format really be a concern?
