Replace Chameleon Visual Effect with Alpha Channels

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:17 am

I am working on a stealth mod, and want to provide an option for the Chameleon effect to be replaced with alpha vectors, so that the person fades depending on their Chameleon rank rather than completely dissapear.

Psychologically, I find it very annoying that regardless of how much Chameleon I've got going for me, low or high, it looks the same. So I get frustrated when people see me, and based on their detection level they probably should, but I *feel* like they shouldn't because of the chameleon effect.

Anyone know how to alter/bypass this?

I'm not entirely sure what you are aiming for.

The ghost effect seems like a good starting point.

But still, I'm having a hard time grasping what you want to do.

Get Wrye Bash, and you can do that with a Bashed Patch tweak.

I want to remove the blurry inviible effect created by Chameleon and replace it with an alphashader that makes you more and more transparent the higher your chameleon is.

Well, that's fine for individual users who want to change it on their own and have Wrye Bash, but I'd prefer not to force folks to install Wyre Bash as a requirement for the mod. I'd prefer to just have an ini setting where 1 turns on the feature and 0 turns it off. But, on the bright side, if it can be done in WB, then it can be done. Just got to figure out. The alpha channel part is easy, it's turning off the Chameleon effect I'm not sure about.

Yup, certainly seems to be what the doctor ordered. I'll check it out in more detail later. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah. A thanx for the tip from me as well. Seems this thing has been available since 2006 but somehow escaped my attention. Think I'll just have to drop it in my game right now.

Well the mod itself didn't really do much except change two settings. And it was a little buggy with having to kick in by manually unequipping and equipping again. But I managed to adapt it with some additional script steps so that the experience is smooth without the user having to do anything.
