PC Gamers: Wait for a Steam Sale

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 11:29 pm

10 hours into Oblivion my rage meter tripped to "dumbed it down", and I've looked at games skeptically since then.

Every single press release for this game gives me the same feeling:

loss of stats (yeah, I've seen the debate, I'm still mentioning it)

intentionally gimped PC graphics

removal/abstraction of the RPG elements

insanely bloated claims about "radiant AI"

Is this Oblivion all over again? As hard as it will be, I get the feeling that holding off and waiting for mods/sales is the only way to go with Skyrim.

Their audience is on console anyway, so they will of course cater to them, and make all their money there... making this less than enticing for the true-blue PC gamers.

Mods FTW of course, as Oblivion is now a masterpiece with them.

Yes, sure.

Skyrim will be a huge disappointment. All signs leads to fail.
It's not even worth the money. Those stupid console people ruined our TES again.

oh the humanity!

Not saying that at all. I'm sure someone around here had the "Oblivion" experience as I described.

It will be awesome on console, make no mistake.

Man, if only you had said something original, then giving this a thread of its own might have made sense.

Morrowind seemed like the sweet spot for this type of game.

Complexity, good level scaling, RPG elements, great story. It seems like the goal of Oblivion/Skyrim has been to simplify, Skyrim taking it to a new level.

If by "Oblivion experience" you mean hundreds of hours of gaming goodness, then yes, I did experience that.

Nah, with oblivion there were a lot of hardware problems.

A lot of content has said to be removed because the voice files wouldn't fit on the disk. (Why not two disks then?)

Because of removed/less extensively implemented features from oblivion I think bethasda will control their release of new info to a greater degree, only speaking of the feature when it is sure to get into the game.

Good. You'll wait until there is a sale. Since if you had continued along the lines you started on, you would have ended up with a warning for platform bashing and flaming.
