What is your highest armor skill? Heavy, medium, light? Unarmored maybe? I'm asking because best light armor in the game - glass one - will be useless for a tank-type character with uber heavy armor skill, but clumsy with light armor.

I think the vendor in the first city sells a bunch or iron and steel items. There is orc armor (medium) in Caldera for you to steal. best weapon? The sword the guy falling from the sky drops is decent for the begining. I think in Balmora in one of the guard towers you can get the sword of white woe (have to steal it). Down towards where the Haluu stronghold is eventually built is an ebony sword struck in the ground. (some people can get it others can't). I may be missing more as i haven't played in 3-4 years.

If any of you read the title. He says first level, implying he's low level. It depends what kind of armor. Light has the best armor early on (if you have tribunal). I'm talking about the Dark brotherhood armor. Heavy is only good when you get ebony and deadric, which is FAAAARRRR past being level 1. Glass on the other hand, is very accessible early on, and there are quite a few places where you can steal it quite easily.

My answer: Light armor is the best kind of armor early on
Glass is the best specific armor early on

In the underworks of the Redoran canton of Vivec city you can find a deadric dagger next to a skeleton.

A short whalk north-east of mount Assurnabibi shrine is the maesa-shammus eggmine. An dead adventurer there has a daedric dai-katana.

leave Balmora south gate, then go south. Cross the bridge east of the eggmine. Over the hill youll find the Vassar-didanat ebony mine. Enter it, then leave. Travel to Vivec, St. Olms. Enter the 'haunted manor' (Its not haunted.) pick the lock in the basemant, (50 pts.) and talk to Dram Bero. In exchange for telling him the location of the mine he'll give you a free daedric weapon of your choice. (I like the tanto.)

Bound weapons are also good.

Good luck:)

There is a Daedric Dia-katana you can easily get at level 1. Just head north of Molag Mar and it's inside an egg mine. Just fight some kwama and it's behind some rocks near the queen.

"First level" doesn't mean much. You could get a full suit of Daedric armor if you're particularly clever/persistent. Maybe... "most easily"? :P

Yeah basically. You can also get almost full glass + ebony weapons by breaking into the vivec vaults. Somewhat challenging at level 1 but I have done it.

Hm, with so little context, it's hard to gauge the nature of the question...

If you're into RP'ing your character, then follow his/her major/minor skills and see where the world leads you. If you're a thief, then there's a ton of accessible stuff to steal in the Census and Excise Warehouse (across from where you exit the C&E Office to start the game).

If yer power-gaming... then check out this page for more info: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Cheats

This is what I typically do at level 1, and because this is the spoiler forum I feel free to, well.......spoil.

Concerning weapons:

I go to Tel Branora and find Sethan's Tradehouse. I quick save just outside the door. I enter and find the desk downstairs and there will be a random glass weapon. If it's a long sword or a short sword, or an axe, I reload my quick save outside the door and re-enter until I get my favorite glass halberd. You may want a sword or an axe. I like the halberd....and will keep reloading my save until it appears. It may take up to five or six times. DO NOT SAVE INSIDE. You will finally get what you want.

I cheat like a mug. Level 1....a powerful, LIGHTWEIGHT, effective weapon. Go kill something.

OK, here's my solution: Start with a Nord with heavy armor and axe as majors; do the Vassir-didinat mine quest and pick the Daedric axe; then head over to Ebonheart and find the underwater cave at the base of the castle. Go in and kill the soldier and take the Lord's Mail cuirass. This may take a few tries until you get lucky enough to get a couple of hits in a row but it's doable at level 1. Now you have almost the best axe and cuirass in the whole game. While you're in the cave, go up on the ledge behind for some good loot.
You'll need a levitate potion which you can get at the Temple on the way to Ebonheart. (just south of Dram Bero)

The iron warhammer, battle axe and claymore are good weapons at cheap prices (depending on your weapon skill). They can handle most eraly game fights, and there isn't a big upgrade on them until you see daedric weapons essentially.

My favorite upgrade weapon to procure at lvl 1 used to the be ebony shortsword laying in the sewer in the Arena underworks in Vivec. One short silt-stride away, and little-to-no trouble to get it. It's second only to the stahlrim dagger in terms of late-game weapons for speed/damage/durability/enchantment per weight. Man, makes me want to go find one now...

Are you sure you dont mean the daedric dagger in the Redoran compound?

Im quite positive there isnt an ebony shortsword in Arena canton sewers.

there is an ebony shortsword in the arena canton sewers. You just have to look around for it or you can go here to find it yourself: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Ebony

Heavy: The shop in seyda neen usualy sells one or two pieces of steel armor, you want those. Otherwise you you should be able to make do fine with the iron armor he sells. You won't be able to get a full suit yet though.

Medium: I believe the shop sells a chainmail cuirass and a chainmail helmet. That's about all you can get for medium armor until you get to the neighboring town of pelagiad. They sell bonemold armor there, which is pretty cool.

Light: You can get most of a full set of chitin in seyda neen. If you have the tribunal expansion you may get attacked by an assassin when you try to sleep. The armor that the assassin wears is about the best light armor you can get until you find glass armor.
