Enchanted Items Aesthetics

Didn't Oblivion have that annoying "shiny saran-wrap" thing going on?

You're thinking of Morrowind which colored the wrap depending on the enchantment. Oblivions was much more subtle...and in the OP's case too subtle.

I too played with the no glow mod in Morrowind. It made it easier to integrate artifact armor pieces with regular armor sets.

I've edited the post as a result of users comments. Please discuss the effects you'd like, or supply some decent pictures of examples.

Well I believe such FX still applied as shaders in similar manner like it was in Oblivion, in Oblivion we can change them to be more spectacular with mods, since enchanting now skill can improve visuals of enchanted items.

Lolz, so apparently none of you were fond of using Umbra, right?

Ever notice the annoying purple glowy crap on an otherwise perfectly jet black sword? See http://utenti.multimania.it/koci/hpbimg/umbrasword.jpg

The visual enchantment effect was on every weapon, including glowy staves as well. I remember it vividly because it looked like crap, and it could have been done better, or not at all.

Skyrim better have awesome effects, or no visual effect until you strike, because I don't want my otherwise badass weaponry looking like glowy 10 pixel MMO weapons from a decade ago.

I support the OP's suggestions. Not great, but close enough.

as long as they don't look like plasma jets or plastic wrap (MW) I will be fine with it :)

I thought the "Mace of Aevar Stone Singer" was very well done in the Bloodmoon expansion for Morrowind. It was a Stahlrim (magical ice) mace with a script that made it appear that cold vapors were rising off it. You knew that thing had to be cold!

The way a weapon would flash then look normal wasn't good imo, and that bright red glow was bad. Morrwinds effects aren't good either.

I rather liked the "one flash then fade to normal" thing myself. It suggested to me the idea (bear in mind, you kept having to recharge these things) that it wasn't wasting charge on nothing, and saving it for dishing out damage. Different strokes.

:lmao:

You'd make a good politician

It was there in the slightest form. What the OP is proposing is that the destructive element takes over the weapons appearance. Very few weapons in Morrowind and Oblivion have done that.

If by that you mean he is quoting specifically the first sentence and ignoring the rest of the point by playin g at symantics than yes.

anyway I vote yes for a flaming long sword like truflame and hopefire. Having effects on the weapons is badass and is probably why people mod them into the PC version.

I vaguely remember a quote saying sometimes we wont even know what the enchantment is on a weapon until we test it so visual effects like the OP suggested are unlikely.
I personally would rather it that way because I just like to have a sword that looks normal even though it is enchanted.
