Skyrim should have mini games

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:52 am

I can't really say whether I would want them or not. If they include them great, if I don't I don't care. I would only care really if they included way too many and they were awful and stopped time.

"Mini-games" that seek to perform a skill based task in the game are the only ones i can tolerate, such as lockpicking, smithing, alchemy and enchanting. All other "activities" such as archery contests, fishing, barding, farming, woodctting, etc, etc should be done in real time. If it can't be done in real time it shouldn't be added to the game.

Wait what? So you do like mini games? A horse back archery thing like Zelda OoT had would be great.

So what do you guys think?

Not a big fan of recursion. I'm already playing a game, I don't see why I need games inside games.

As long as they don't get old, make sense and are easy to learn, challenging to master plus unexploitable.

Because its realistic, FNV is a great example of this. It just like being able to do all those mundane task npcs can do. I think npc should also be playing dice, racing horses, etc Why does that not makes sense?

Yo I dont know if you guys have played Red Dead Redemption but I think they should have mini games that you should be able to play. Like in Red dead there was multiple games you could do. Here is some examples with video links. Leave a comment on what you think about adding this kind of stuff to skyrim. Thanks. In skyrim it would just have a medieval tone and theme to it.

RDR 1v1 Duel : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpiVxF5vCmc&feature=related

Five Finger fillet Mini Game : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_BZZskjgvI

Arm Wrestling : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsjwXcQrcew&feature=related

Horse shoes : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ls5H0ihHlWE&feature=related

Poker/ Texas hold 'em : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCzTvNMUlCA

Also user "Skyrimus" brought up a good idea about a drinking game. It would finish out the good feeling of a tavern and or pub! Thanks

Also some other things they could include would be like archery contest, tomahawk throwing contest, horse riding contest, and perhaps if you are part of the thieves guild you could do, "who can steal more loot" game mode. Thanks

It really depends on the minigame. Some are good, some are bad. It's a game within a game and any game has the potential to be bad.

Only mini games that have to do with the game part of the game, things like drinking games...well ok maybe if you have to use it a lot to get information from people but seriously mini games are not for that kinda thing, but for example lockpicking...well there has to be a "mini game" for that because otherwise there is no lockpicking, just some stat that automatically opens chests for you, like having a high sword stat just kills enemies for you

I'll never like the fact that you can't at least attempt to pick any lock in F3.

I agree, even a novice should be at least able to attempt.

Sounds alright if they are not needed to progress through the story. If they are bar games or games in guilds or challenges that are completely optional I'd like it. If I do something too much it just becomes a chore.

I say yes to mini games as long as they stay optional. RDR was great because if I wanted to play poker I could, but I almost never had to. Skyrim would benefit greatly from adding such mini games to the local taverns. Although they would probably have to invent new games themselves since they wouldn't be able to use any modern games.

I love minigames but they would have to be customized for the game. Not just a half-[censored] attempt. The Nord drinking game seems fun and would be in-line with the game.

It wouldn't hurt to maybe have a music mini game, I suppose, considering that was an instrument in the tavern part of the trailer.

You mean like a medieval version of Guitar Hero? Makes me giggle, to be honest.

I don't like skill based mini games in general, so my opinion is biased anyway.

So.... here is my negative response. No sir, I don't want them in Skryim. I have a problem with mini games being mastered. Once you're good at it, like lock picking in Oblivion, then the skill doesn't matter. Lock picking in Fallout 3 was bound to your skill level, so why did you need to do the mini game anyway?

I feel the idea behind mini games is that active skills, like magic or combat skills, require you to obtain them and then "use" them properly. The same idea would be applied to something like lock picking. Congratulations, you got to a certain skill number... now use it to open the lock. However, that seems like it was just tacked on to make a lesser skill seem more active.

In any case, skills such as lock picking and persuading don't need a mini game, in my opinion, because they are not interesting enough. When you pick a lock, you pick a lock.... just like the hundred other locks you picked before it, and this current lock is not going to have surprises or anything new.

As for other non skill related mini games, like drinking.... sure! I don't mind games that are there to be chosen when you want to do them and have fun.

I want mah lockpicking minigame back but instead make it real time and have an ass load of tumblers for the harder locks. That's one minigame I'd like.

Definitely well in favour of this!

I know someone said the mini games in Fable 2 were lame but I hope that's their individual experience and not a general feeling. I didn't touch the mini games my first time through the game and then I discovered how to play towers and ended spending 3 days doing just that!

My point is ES is such an expansive game and that really is one of its strongest attributes, the fact that you can immerse yourself so utterly into a different world where you don't even feel like your playing a game any more (unlike Fable). I think they should have a realistic approach to the games and not just make games for the sake of it. Lets be fair back then there was no sky sports or ESPN, no fruit machines or bullseye, pool or darts (OK maybe darts?) and so in an Inn or at the home they would have played their own games for entertainment.

I would like to see a varying degree of card games (even buy your own unique set of cards), bone dice and wooden board games and then the most obvious, music. There was no Radio 1 or jukebox, evenings would be spent at a tavern listening to a resident musician or passing troupe purely to listen. SO for those of you that want to play a bard wouldn't it be awesome to have a set of appointments at taverns or maybe few (depending on your fame and skill) and travel across Skyrim earning money for playing the lute or hand harp, flute or pipe? Maybe even play at a Dukes court.

Then there's your magicians, a master of illusion could surely create a display of magnificent's to rival the most expensive firework show or create a dragon's egg that hatch's and has the dragon crawl out, grow and flyer around the tavern harassing locals only to puff into smoke and stars that shoot across the room, I mean its only and illusion after all. Here you could travel across the land learning new spells that earn greater rewards.

For me, I'm going to get drunk right in the middle of doing a massively important quest and go beat the local gambler at dice....and then kill him when I lose.

I hope the devs read this!
