Finishing moves for spells

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 2:49 am

I have read some good news about how awesome and impressive and nasty the finishing moves look, and I think I've read that finishing moves were weapon-specific (though I can't find where, and it hasn't been repeated in the recent previews I read), but I never read about finishing moves for the mage character, which could be spell-specific, staff-specific, or even enchanted-item-specific or magical-trap-specific.

It is unlikely that they add this in the game so late if it isn't already in, but it could perhaps make a nice DLC, or be included in a further, bigger extension...

Here are just some examples to make my point more clear...

For fire spells, a mage could for example put both hands on his ennemy's temples, the ennemy screams briefly while he attempts to pull the hands off his head, just before his skull burns from the inside, flames rushing out his mouth and eyes-sockets. The burn-from-the-inside-thing could be adapted to a fire staff, the only difference being that the hands on temples are ennemy's, due to the pain he feels...
For a poison spell, the ennemy could begin to bleed from the eyes, mouth, nose and ears, he staggers, drops his weapon, fall on his knees and finally dies. Or he begins to cough violently, or to convulse.
For an illusion spell, the ennemy coul be forced to commit suicide by falling on his own sword.
For an absorb health spell, smoky brambles linking the PC to the ennemy could force their way into the latter's very veins and svck his blood while he becomes livid.
A flame-thrower spell could become a fire snake that rush on the ennemy.
With a shock-spell-enchanted gauntlet, the PC could grab his opponent at the throat in a strangulation-like movement and shock him till death comes

Do you think it would be a good idea to put things of such kinds into the game?

These are only examples, I don't even know whether the game engine allows for these, but since an idea never shared is forever lost, I felt the need to post this.

If you have other examples - and I'm sure there could be many - or reasons to say that this idea is very bad, please post them...

Nice ideas, I hadn't really thought of having finishing moves for spells. Would be awesome to see something like the moves you suggested in the game.

There's only one that's remotely like Star Wars.

Most of them aren't like Star Wars... even so, what's wrong with being like Star Wars? Star Wars is awesome.

I think they would have mentioned spell finishers by now.

This would be cool, it would make mages more balanced with other characters since we know weapon finishers are in. If they don't include it, it could always be modded in.

- Actual freezing of opponents - I can picture a small town filled with brand new ice sculptures.
- Icing covering opponents recently pelted with ice-spells
- Opponents killed with lightning still spasm after death
- not serious but lol: Increased Khajit flammability due to fur

Stealth spell kills, you sneak up behind an enemy, and stuff a fireball in his mouth

those ideas are awesome :D maybe a finisher that is similar to the spell sheogorath used to kill you if you attacked him, where you lift your enemy high above ground and let him fall to his death. i dont know wich magic school it would have fitted in though, maybe alteration.

Why not just be constructive ;)

Theres a thread about nearly everything, they shrivel and die or go offtopic. New threads with more detail = win :P

In fact I didn't think to star wars when posting this. Rather, the last of my proposal is - I think - more likely to come from some James bond, in which a villain wears some kind of technologic armor to control a satellite, but I don't remember which James Bond.

Well, for the previous post, I'm sorry to have missed it... I had typed "finishing moves" into the search box, but came into such amounts of topics I finally decided to post this as a new one...

To leave the off-topic realms, I had also thought to finishing moves related to frost spells, but all of them involved opponents becoming breakable (and in fact actuelly broken), but I'm not sure at all I would like to see a super-rare, super-enchanted, super-strong, superlative armor broken into pieces because some (aesthetic but all in all useless) finishing move randomly happened at the end of a very difficult battle...

This is a very good idea !

I didn't think to use spells when sneaking... Well, now I don't understand why. But the best ideas often seem very obvious when heard for the first time...

First of all, I never once thought of finishing moves for magic attacks. I always play as a warrior or stealth character so this never crossed my mind. Magic finishing moves would be, in my opinion, more satisfying! Your ideas are brilliant.
