Elsweyr's Kingdom of Rimmen

This project is kind of an add-on to Iliana's famous mod http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36303

Rimmen

Though ostensibly its own kingdom, Rimmen still pays tribute to the Mane of Elsweyr, from whose realm it seceded in CE812 during the Interregnum. Earlier, Akaviri refugees had fled persecution when the warlord Attrebus briefly aspired to the Imperial Throne. Attrebus, though he lasted no longer than most of the pretender kings of that period, thought he might rid Cyrodiil of the foreigners who had ruled it for the first half of the Common Era, and he drove the Akaviris past the Empire's borders into Elsweyr. The khajiit granted them asylum in the hills and steppes of northwestern Elsweyr, where they dwelt in relative seclusion until remnants of the Dir-Kamal resurfaced in Cyrodiil, seizing the Throne from Attrebus' successors. The Rimmen (literally, the "Rim Men," as the khajiit called them) joined their brothers to try to rebuild the Empire. This effort was doomed to failure, but not before the khajiit attempted to reclaim their lands in a series of bloody border wars. Currently, since the ascension of Tiber Septim, the hapless Rimmen have once again submitted to the protection of the Mane, with a renewed tribute paying for the Cat Lord's guarantee of their independence, a truly weak reed upon which to lean.

Copied from Lady Nerevar's Imperial Library http://www.imperial-library.info/content/infernal-city-lore-notes#Elsweyr on Greg Keyes book http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Infernal_City.

Moon-sugar is rare in the northern parts of Elsweyr, but plentiful in Rimmen (and presumably other cities). p.179

Rimmen had elegant bones of ivory-colored stone with few towers but many domes. Soldiers - human soldiers, met them at the gate, searched them, questioned them, and eventually passed them through. For another hundred yards they snaked through the twists and turns of an entry overlooked by platforms for archers, mages, and siege weapons. That brought them to the market, a bustling, colorful plaza empty in the middle but girdled by tents and stalls and bounded by canols. A broad avenue flanked by more expansive waterways continued on to what was clearly the palace, an ancient-looking structure raised up on a high, tiered stone substructure. The tiers held some buildings, and apparently earth, because he could see trees growing there. Surmounting what was a cylindrical building with a large golden dome. Water cascaded down the sides of the palace, feeding into the pool that encircled it.

Off to the eastern side of the palace, he could see the odd curly-edged roof of what had to be the Akaviri temple Annaig had mentioned. The only place he'd ever seen with similar architecture was Cloud Ruler Temple... p.184

He was surprised that fewer than half of the people he saw were Khajiit, and many of those lolled about with wild of vacant eyes, skooma pipes clutched in their hands. It was a strange sight to see in an open, public square...

They left the plaza, crossing a canol on a footbridge and thence down a narrow street where gently chiming bells were depended between the flat roods of the buildings and viridian moths flittered in the shadows. The addicts there even thicker here, a few watching them and holding out their hands for money; but mods were shivering, lost in their visions.

They arrived at their destination, a smaller square with a fortified building surrounded by guards in purple surcoats and red sashes. A sign proclaimed the place to be KINGDOM OF RIMMEN STATE STORE.

Once again they were searched, questioned, and then passed into a low-ceilinged room where twenty of so people stood on line at a counter. Only one person, an Altmer, seemed to be dealing with the customers, but others worked behind him, wrapping paper packages into even larger paper packages. p.185

Thread 5 already? We seem to be going through threads like it's nothing. Anyway, everything you've done so far has been splendid, and it looks like you've been busy despite being ill as you mentioned earlier.

By the end of this weekend I should be able to start work again on the upper class portion of the city, as I built a (mostly) new computer that should run oblivion much better than my laptop. As I'm sure I've said many times by now, I'm hoping to put in a rock garden / well for people to admire and drink water from in that big open space in the middle of the district. I also want to make some NPCs, clutter another house interior, fix up the library a little (it's rather bland at the moment), and possibly change the scale of the upper class inn from 1 to 0.96 or so, as at the moment the door is about 2.5 times the size of the player, which looks odd to the the least. I may also add some secrets into the little gardens beside each house, and in one of the houses I was thinking of adding in a small dungeon/crypt that has been lost to time, at the end of which there will be some spectacular weapon or armor piece. Would it be okay to add in a dungeon, or is there going to be something else beneath Rimmen that would make it odd to have a dungeon occupy the same space?

As I'm doing a new UC house set currently, you should wait with anything around and inside the houses until I'm finished. Preparing NPC's with packages etc. should be o.k., they can be easily adapted when the new houses are ready. The dungeon/crypt can be done too, although I would prefer to have it below the palace and the passages, not below the houses themself. It's entrance could be somewhere near that wall below the guild house, but that should be placed later, after I finished new houses.

Could someone take over the Rimmen guards? I would like to have them 'personalized' as unique NPCs each, like all the vanilla guards are since I installed FCOM. And they don't have any packages ...

If somebody wants a challenge: what about a quest that they stop the PC at the gates of Rimmen and search for Skooma/Moonsugar?

I guess this deserves a small poke too! :poke:

Btw, Auryga you had a nice basic map of Tamriel that you once showed. Have you released it maybe? I think it would be great base for a new Dynamic Map style.

Currently there's no time for any kind of modding for me, real life is way too busy :banghead:.

Just have enough time to read the news on Skyrim and this thread and such. But not the slightest progress on Rimmen or the map, sorry . And this won't change too soon, so my next work will most probably the port of Rimmen into Skyrim's engine :P.

The latest one released so far. Did a lot of new stuff already since v0.0.9, but haven't had the time to do a new package. I'll try to do at least that until 'Skyrim day' :P. Although my current dev version need's a lot cleaning before I can upload anything, so don't expect it to soon ...

Ah.. Too bad. I guess that after 'skyrim day' most of us will spend our game time on Skyrim itself.

I'd be great that you release latest version if you don't plan to work much on it and update it as you go.
