Heavily modded Oblivion and UOP

Hey there. So I went through several "install oblivion / install lots of mods / screw up everything / redo from scratch" cycles only to came to conclusion that the unofficial oblivion patches are causing major ctd issues on my system. No matter what I try [install UOP first / last / install UOP without the unofficial SI patch / install UOP without the unofficial mods patch] I always end up with a very unstable game. Here's my list :

Add to that a few OBGEv2 shaders and various texture packs including Qarl, Better Trees and Flora and such. Oblivion runs smooth, rock solid, I'm able to play several hours with no problems at all. No ctd, no glitches, nothing, nada de nada. As soon as I install UOP, hello ctd. It is my understanding that UOP heavily conflicts with OOO but I can't believe there's no way to make them work together. What am I doing wrong? Most of all, do I really need UOP? Thanks.

If the UOP led to a very unstable game or conflicted heavily with OOO, Blade Of Mercy wouldn't be able to http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1160601-my-new-personal-best-playtime-without-ctd/ without a CTD. Lots and lots of players use the UOP and OOO w/o stability issues, including me.

The UOP, USIP, UOMP, and the supplemental patches by Arthmoor fix many known issues with the game, like an attractive female characters face becoming a vanilla male face after becoming a vampire. It fixes floating rocks, "holes" in floors that weapons fall through, quest glitches, etc...
I use http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=28537 to fix the UOP's conflicts with OOO weapon stats. I use UFCOM, but the problems are the same.
Watch your Install Order of the texture packs and the UOP's, Install them by the dates they were last updated. Arthmoors Supplemental Patches are more current than many of the texture replacers, and your install Order should reflect this fact. Use the links in my signature for a better understanding of this.

I use the unofficial patches and once played about that long without crashes. My game has just about every FPS killing graphics enhancer I could find, too, but no OOO in my case. I don't use Streamline, but do use Windom Earle's Oblivion Crash Prevention System. Put it this way. I run a mod that makes cooked ham look better. I don't think I would get much past the loading screen without the patches. Bethesda left thousands of bugs uncorrected.

Looking at your load order, I suggest you try without OBGE and see what happens. It's a really popular mod but can be hard to configure. You may be having shader issues.

Uh, is that really true? My install order is that I installed QTP3R, the optimised meshes, Bomrets for SI, RAEVWD and AWLS at the very end. Thus, BAIN says that the UOP supplemental gets overwritten nif files by these texture replacers. Shouldn't it be that way, because otherwise I would see vanilla textures again?

Do I need to change that?

I checked, it is only nifs thtat get overweritten.

UOP and supplementals should be the FIRST 'mods' that you install. They really shouldn't have any crash causing conflicts at all......

I usually follow the instuction in the the readmes, if I have a mod that has meshes and textures, and an esp, I use where BOSS installs the esp in my Load Order to determine where I place the mod in my Install Order. I usually install mesh and texture replacers that do not include an esp where they will not overwrite something I like to see in my game. I use BAIN, because fixing a mistake I make is easy to do, and requires no reinstalling.
EDIT When I do a reinstall I always install the UOP, the USIP, and then the UOMP's right after installing Vanilla, I did not find out about installing Arthmoors Supplemental patches after installing some mesh and texture replacers until I read Alt3rn1ties pictorial guide.

Cant be the UOP. I play 6-8 hour sessions about every weekend. The UOP is the First mod installed . Second mod for me Dark Darn. Then comes FCOM. Rock solid 2 years running.

Fresh Oblivion..install SI and then the "Official Path" ..For the UOP to work you have to use the "Official Patch First. The one found on Bethesda's Home page.

sorry that was probably a dumb question you said you can play for hours.

Actually they haven't. As far as I can see my CTD are not strictly UOP/USIP related, as they run just fine on vanilla [GOTY]. I'm facing problems with UOP _and_ other mods, god knows why. I ran just about everything mod on the nexus with no problem at all but for some reason UOP screws up everything, I can barely run the game for a couple of minutes, then kaboom. Don't get me wrong, the problem is certainly on my end, I just wish to know where.

@bradleyh: I'll have a look at your links, the TESIV:POSItive stuff looks very useful, thanks.

As you're using Wrye Bash already, post your load order via it instead so we get version numbers etc. as well: right-click on file-header > list mods > paste into post.

FWIW, this is the order I usually suggest to install stuff in:

1. Install the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.
2. Install QTP3 Redimized.
3. Install the UOP320+QTP3 Patch.
4. Install the UOP Supplementals.
5. Install your favorite UI mod. Darn, Immersive Interface, BTMod, or your custom package for this if you have one.
6. Install Enhanced Economy if you're going to use it. It has UI components so should go in early.
7. Install Dynamic Map if you're going to use it, for the same reason. It also has UI components.
8. Install RAEVWD if you're going to use it.
9. Install AWLS if you're going to use it. This has options to override some components of RAEVWD.

@dAb: A whole lot of people play this game with the UOP, OOO, and hundreds of other mods and do just fine. If the UOP were the cause of so much trouble it would have been weeded out long ago - and corrected.

My system is quite old but I'm able to run a maxed out oblivion at an average 20fps on exteriors, which is fine for me. I don't see any excessive vram usage and thanks to OSR I get only some stuttering here and there. I don't really feel the need of further improving the game but if you guys can provide me a detailed install order of just about everything above, including UOP, I can give it a try. In the meantime I'm going to read through the entire TESIV:POSItive guidelines. Thanks in advance.

See Arthmoor's post above for a proposed install order. Your load order looks good except for some minor stuff:

0D IWR-Lights.esp - Might want to consider AWLS instead. Less performance hit and nice features.
0E IWR-Windows.esp
0F IWR-Shutters.esp

13 Living Economy.esp - Consider switching to Enhanced Economy as LE has some issues and EE works better with mod added items etc.
14 Living Economy - Items.esp

3D xulSnowdale.esp [Version 1.0.2] - You need the OOO patch for this.

Guys, while I thank you for all the help you gave me I feel sorry for having wasted your time. It turned out the UOP archive was broken, a few weeks ago I had a serious system crash that corrupted a bunch of files on my external hdd where I store the downloaded mods, I did a scandisk to recover everything I could but it appears some files didn't recover properly, including UOP. I've downloaded a fresh new copy, did a clean install of every mod and now everything works like a charm. I apologize for my dumbness.
