Crash trying to save

I'm having increasing difficulty with crashes while trying to save. I'm not having any other problems. I get random CTD's once in a while, but other than that the games running great. I use all the tools, WryeBash, OBMM, BOSS, crash prevention, stutter remover, streamline etc. I've tried turning auto-save off and on, I've tried using quicksave, though I've never used it in the past, but nothing works. I seem to be able to save all I want until I interact with something, either another NPC, or a container, or a horse. If I try to save the game via the console, I get this error message in the console, and it won't save:

'SysWindowCompileAndRun', line 1: Missing Parameter String. Compile Script not saved!

Did you try reverting to a previous save or starting a new game? If that fixes things, then your current save is busted.

Unfortunately, there is no possible way to salvage a corrupted save, so the best you can do is prevent this from happening in the future.

- Do not use weOCPS, this does not fix anything, and continuing to play after it blocks a crash WILL break things. This mod is to be used for debugging only.
- Don't ever quicksave, and don't ever autosave, either.
- Make sure you properly configure OSR to your computer settings. For me, it works best with Heap Mode 5 and size 450, but it differs from computer to computer.

Hmm, I've been using weOCPS for a long time, and it's prevented a lot of crashes for me. Seems odd that just now is it corrupting my save. I've also had this problem before with saves, before and after I started using weOCPS, though it seemed to just fix itself after a while.

This is not odd. weOCPS does not fix anything, and continuing to play after it stops a crash is a monumental bad idea. Whatever other people might say, when a program crashes, it gets stopped for a very good reason, and you are risking a lot more than your savegame by playing through the crashes.

I suggest you lose weOCPS altogether. Relying on it is a very bad habit, and you need to break it.

Given that response, I am now completely certain that your savegame has been destroyed. You are going to need to start over.

Thanks for the help. I think I'll wait on a second opinion before starting over. I've played Oblivion since release. I've had problems like this before, yet I'm still playing the same save after four years. Starting over isn't an option for me. I'll fix this save, or just wait for Skyrim.

I'm also skeptical about weOCPS damaging more than my save. Would you mind elaborating?

It can hide peoblems caused by incorrectly installed mods, and it can lead to save game corruption. It is a useful tool for testing, but you should not rely on it. Read about it in TESIV:POSitive.

I do have FastExit2, but removing weOCPS seems to have done the trick. No need to start over, and thanks for the help ;)

I've actually used weOCPS for a long time and still haven't gotten rid of it despite knowing that it can cause problems, I don't know why (maybe due to affinity for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windom_Earle?). But I do get plenty of crashes--well, I rarely get crashes while just playing, and most occur outdoors, but the most annoying thing I experience is crashing upon loading a saved game, where it completely loads and then immediately crashes before anything shows up. I think it might have something to do with too much texture memory being used, as I've only got a 1gb card and it can get up to 1200mb outdoors, but it doesn't happen consistently, so it could be related to my game being corrupted by weOCPS. Or rather, it could be related to continuing to play after weOCPS prevented a crash. Whenever I hear a beep now that indicates it prevented a crash I usually just quit the game, but it could have happened a long time ago where I continued to play, or I could have missed beeps, and now my game is "unstable" since it's still the same playthrough. The crash-upon-loading thing happens sometimes when changing cells as well, and one time I couldn't exit an interior (the half-sunken haunted ship) and had to use the console to move myself elsewhere because the game would crash when loading the exterior cell by the ship. Actually I should create a thread about some of these issues since they're likely not related to weOCPS. But someone needs to make the Dale Cooper Crash Prevention System that makes a cup of coffee appear in your inventory every time it prevents a crash or something.
