You are over-encumbered

Well it's not unique to Oblivion in the TES series, it's predecessors did the same thing.

Did I say that it was?

you mentioned Oblivion specifically

I did like fallouts better especially if we can get that perk that allows you to travel back to town when you are overencumbered,

Indeed it was unrealistic in Oblivion

How would you like to see encumberment (spelling) handled? Would you like too see a system similar to that of Oblivion, or Fallout.

Or perhaps you have an idea for a new way to handle it

The way it always should have been handled: The more you carry, the slower you move- getting progressively slower until at some point you cannot move at all. Immobility should not come until over (possibly even double) maximum carry weight. At maximum, running should become impossible and walking should be slow, getting slower and slower until the immobility point.

 Why are you questioning if it was unrealistic or not? You just said it was unrealistic and no one disputed it, everyone is on the same page. However, instead of singling out Oblivion, which seems to be a sport on these forums, just say "Encumbrance is unrealistic in past TES games", no need to single out one game while leaving a more popular one safe from ridicule.

Agreed. It should be an open ended formula that starts at maximum mobility and decreases with every pound until immobility sets in.

^Especially when they were exactly the same.

Exactly. I said it was unrealistic. It was. Your whinging over the presumption that I was "singling out" Oblivion, rather than simply using it as the most obvious example, is your problem - not mine.

Well there's lots of people who have played Oblivion but not the previous titles, so that's they're only point of reference. I'm one of them. I had Morrowind for awhile but never got into it. And I had never even heard of the previous 2 before I started playing Oblivion.

Nitpicking in this thread

But yeah, pretty much with everyone else. Each pound over maximum decreases movement speed/increases stamina burn, until you can no longer move.

Ditto - would rather get another penalty than just be frozen in one spot
