Level Lock

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:30 pm

According to various sources including vg247.com and Wikipedia,

"There are over 130 dungeons scattered across Skyrim, and when the player enters a dungeon for the first time, the monsters within lock to the player's level permanently, even if visited later at a higher level."

So given that this information is true and the player knows this, what would prevent a tactical player from entering and immediately exiting many/most/all of these dungeons while their character is at Level 1, followed by a period of leveling their character to a degree that would then allow the player to cruise through any of these dungeons containing the "locked" Level 1 monsters? Or is the claim about dungeon level locking incorrect?

It is true, but the dungeons/monsters have level ranges. For example if you walk into a dungeon with a range of 1-5 at level one you will lock the creatures at level one. However if the creatures have a range from 15-20 you will lock them at 15.

So your low level PC will lock the creatures at their lowest level range. Not necessarily at level 1.

You could do this, but you could as well put the game in easy. It would just ruin the experience of the game.

But as Richard said, there is a minimum level too, so monsters wouldn't be all level 1 like in Oblivion.

It should all work out fine. if it was not explained,I bet people would not have even noticed the level difference's between the monsters base and ceiling levels in the final build.

I hope it works out. Though I don't plan on going into every dungeon I find immediately.

It will also likely lock the level of the loot found in the dungeon.

Technically yes, however the outdoor areas might do something similar so you might run into higher level enemies in far away places. You would also use a lot of time walking around and would level up on outdoor enemies.
Last I assume loot will depend on enemy level not your own so you would be better off waiting.

I guess the opposite would be the main problem, people will find dungeons where you can kill high level enemies at low level and loot them for high end equipment, yes you can kill high end enemies with jumping up on obstacles and shoot or leading enemies into traps.

You could do that, but it would gut your exp.

fBy the time you get to the 4th or 5th dungeon the monsters will probably yield next to no significant exp, and garbage loot you don't even wanna bother to bring back to sell in town let alone fight with.

Self control. It's a single player game, so why ruin it for you and only you?

Good point.

This is the truth. I'm sure some dungeons will have broader ranges (30-50), but you'll only be able to lock a few dungeons at level 1. Also, as was already mentioned, the loot quality will be effected as well.

FYI you don't get experience for defeating monsters in an elderscrolls game.

The real question is why it matters if I decide to hit as many dungeons as I can at low levels. It's my game and I can play it as I see fit.

Granted there will be consequences for doing this in the way of loot and challenge, but it's my decision to play the game this way.

As has already been stated: Yes, that will be possible in theory.

But why? That would just make the game worse for you....there's nothing "tactical" about it, unless you are playing a weak build and you want to wreck the game to keep it easy....but then there's just using the easiest difficulty setting....soooo.....

Sure you do. It's not "called exp", of course. But it is. try building up your sword skills when everything you kill dies in one hit and the scaling is set that you should have to use your sword 50 times for a single skill up.

This sums up the question completely.
Anyway, it'll only affect those imbeciles that go and actually do this in the hope of easier dungeons. Go ahead, if you care that much.
