Whats with the skimpy armor #2

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 2:22 am

Spartans didn't wear a lot of armor hell historically they went into battle half naked and were one of the most feared group of warrior ever to exist. and if were talking fantasy look at Conan the barbarian he gets by fine with basically a loin cloth, gauntlets and a pair of sandals

While I don't really agree with the OP about the "Skimpy armour" I do hate the fact that people are barely wearing anything in icy weather. :vaultboy:

Have you seen the pic of the Orc?

If you view the pics @ http://www.elderscrolls.com/skyrim/ you can see the Orc wearing what seems to be a bit more coverage. There is also one where Dovahkiin is fighting the spider and his kit has expanded to include some leather cover on his back and bits of fur about the place.

Though it makes sense to me not to be wearing an iron condem while climbing over the Skyrim mountains...

Ed: Checkout the one where he's fighting some ghosty-looking floating serpent things ("Ice wraiths"). He's (/she's) wearing full set of plate mail or something.

1. They are in a dungeon, maybe he left his coat on the hanger at the door? :P (seriously though, in Oblivion goblins like this barely had anything on but loincloths, and you are complaining about this?)
2. When you are a Nord with natural cold resistance and you have lived in and know the cold, you can wear whatever the hell you want! :P (Not to mention barbarianism)
3. Draugr probably do not feel the cold, and he probably doesn't give a crap about looking skimpy...
4. Meh, he has a back, and that looks fine to me, (for the record, that town looks AMAZAING!)

There are a number of pics showing less skimpy armour, couple people have already mentioned the orc and the elven armour in the ice wraith shot. There's also the shot with the guy walking down the street in Riverwood, the guy with the dog, most likely an imperial guard is wearing more armour.

I don't know, if I was a zombie with no body heat I wouldn't want to be in a cold climate...

I see armor thats extremely skimpy and that's not covering much. The armor on Dovahkiin doesn't even cover his back, and the one on the khajiit only covers one of his arms and just a small section of his chest. Last time I checked armor is worn for protection, not just looks. Skyrim is also a cold place to live so why is everyone running around like there going to go swimming at the local beach on a hot summer day? I actually HATE the look of the armor. I'm a history buff and the two things that I can't stand is armor that's either over the top, with random stuff jutting out of it, or armor thats basically a frying pan on a string. I hope they have more realistic armor in addition to this stuff. I'll still like the game if the armor looks like this, but I'm going to have a hard time ignoring the fact that swords are being deflected off my body by one cooking pot and a whole lot of air.

Now i know what your thinking, "boy this guy is such a wimp", but heck i'm not dumb enough to go outside without even wearing armor that fully protects me from the cold. I could get a cough DAMNIT, so that means no more killin' dragons for me. I vow to wear warm armor when its a bit chilly, or even wear a T-shirt DAMNIT!

I see other examples. Surprisingly enough, some players may want to go the Conan armored loincloth route, and others might want to be a walking tank.

http://elderscrolls.com/skyrim/media/screenshots/ice-wraiths/ His back isn't bare.

http://elderscrolls.com/skyrim/media/screenshots/orc-night/ That doesn't look very skimpy at all.

http://cms.elderscrolls.com/sites/default/files/tes/screenshots/Cave01_wLegal.jpg This is pretty much a full suit as well.

What a concept; different types of armor, with different armor slots, and, hopefully, the ability to mix and match.... Its going to be interesting.

As an admirer of fantasy art, I find the armor in Skryim, so far, to be somewhat conservative.
