Should there be a pause when flipping through spells hotlink

On the PC you can set your hotkeys by pressing F1. Not sure about the XBox.

Damn. I've been playing it for YEARS on PC and never knew that. That would have been helpful to know.

I'm starting to understand why people on these forums hate the term "immersion". For PC gamers this will not be a problem since you guys probably have hot keys. But as for us console players, I think this is a HUGE improvement. The hot key's on the D-Pad were clumsy at best, and I was never able to switch to the diagonal items I needed. As for the Fable comparison, I have to disagree. Yes, it worked for Fable, but it wouldn't work for Skyrim. Wanna know why? Because Fable had like, 6 spells total. How many does Skyrim have, 88 or something? Having a system like that would only limit the player. Im strongly in favor of the new system.

What's the difference between 6 "favorites" and 6 hot key spells? Isn't it still selecting from the total of your spells the ones you like most?

Other:
I don't want it to pause, I want it to work like in oblivion where you just use the dpad for hotkeys. However, what would be amazing would be the ability to set multiple hotkey wheels and switch between them so you could have a wheel for armor, a wheel for weapons, a wheel for offensive spells, etc, and tapping a key would change your chosen wheel.

real time. having played games that allow pausing like dragon age etc and games that dont pause the game like STALKER the latter is definitely better. if you dont have sense enough to have the proper spells hotkeyed then you either run away and escape and comeback later with the appropriate spells or you die. learn how to play the game instead of relying on the game to help you at every turn.

it removes ALL tension from the game when you know that at any given time you can pause the game and give yourself healing potions and magic potions and change out your damaged weapons or armor etc with absolutely no penalty. games have moved away from turn based combat for a reason and the menu system is the last bastion and needs to go the way of the dinosaurs.

I'm not worried til I play my Spellshadow. Then...I don't know. Depends I guess (at this point, I don't really have an opinion. Probably won't bother me though.)

The hotkey system is being completely revamped in light of the dual-wield capability of the combat system, from what I understand. As I read it, it basically pauses and lets you page through combos you set up. No more hotkeys #1-8.

Also... read my sig.

I for one think poll topics are fun, provided the options are well designed.

I like the way they're doing it in The Witcher 2, where everything slows down to a crawl. It gives you time to think, but doesn't let you dawdle.

Putting Fable in the No option would turn people biased to that poll. Considering alot of people drag it through the mud.

Yes I think it should be real time, you should have got ready before you took on those trolls. If you get ambushed and only have your feather and waterbreathing spells equipped, well....thats the point of an ambush, to catch you with your spells crisscrossed.

I don't like it when games pause to let you access maps, inventory, etc.

The game should remain real time so you have to come prepared when exploring.

Already have what you think you will need bound to the appropriate keys or try to run away and sort yourself out when trying to take cover for a bit.

Spells are basically weapons now, you have to equip them. So I want the exact system when changing from dagger to an axe to apply when switching from fire damage spell to detect life.
