Kvatch ... alternatives?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:18 am

So although its late in the day figuratively speaking I'll try to avoid spoilers by simply saying "post-Kvatch events", if you don't know what Kvatch is go back a browser page and skip this thread now, with that said for the rest of you...

I'm aware of "Kvatch Rebuilt" and "Kvatch Aftermath" but as it goes both seem to have there issues, first, "Kvatch Rebuilt", the sheer volume of posts, seemingly countless "Doesn't work", "Causes CTD's", "Saves borked" etc posts all over the net are frankly off-putting, second, "Kvatch Aftermath" seemed like the perfect solution, little to no posts I can see along the lines of Rebuilt that I can find however after finally tracking down v7.8's link (current/last version?) it would seem from what I've read it "requires" a complete (near enough 1 GB) overhaul making unwanted changes to pretty much everything from the UI to environments to adding companions etc.

Was there any alternatives I'm missing here other than trying to track down an older inherently more bugged version of Aftermath without excessive changes to completely unrelated content?

Now I should also say I could have possibly added this to the MOD Detectives thread as two known mods are in discussion but the question is more in regards to alternatives and workarounds so with the MOD Psychics threads dead felt it made more sense to keep the MOD Detectives thread clean for purpose.

Cheers if you read this far, hopefully some of you will understand what I'm talking about.

I've not tried KA, but I have KR, and I've never really had an issues with it at all. Of course there were the occasional bugs early on, but afaik the latest version is okay - I especially liked the questline for it

Thanks for the feedback, when you say latest version of KR are you talking about 1.1 or is there a continuation I haven't found, I've noticed since I was active many other modders seem to have shunned the nexus in some sort of huff removing uploads yet I haven't found any reasoning posted anywhere for it.

Hmm.... I don't recall the basic release of Kvatch Rebuilt being overly buggy. As I recall it needs TES4edit cleaning, but that can be said for many a mod. Are you maybe thinking of the somewhat recent update for Rebuilt? Seems to me that update does or at least did indeed have issues. I've not followed it in a while so don't know its current status.

My chief problem with Rebuilt, which I used during my first play-through, was that once restored and your statue complete there is almost no reason to visit the city. It's rather bland.

I've not yet tried Aftermath, but currently use the same author's Kvatch Rising. Its rebuilding phases were not as interesting to me as those provided by Rebuilt, since with Rising you are an observer only, not an active participant. That said, once finished Rising's Kvatch is the more interesting city. Yes, it requires a quite large resource pack (as does Aftermath). As to its altering UI and such I've not noticed that.

It requires the resource pack, as do a fair number of mods by the same author, but, if you don't use the cyrodiil "overhaul" esp files, then, it shouldn't make any changes to the world.

Yes, I meant v1.1 - I know it's over 2yrs old, but it can be considered the latest release.... unless I missed out on somebody else updating it

Ok, thanks all for the additional information, I guess its just down to me now to try both and see how it goes over a prolonged period of time.

With so many avatars and persona's over the years I was just dreading the 50-100 hours played broken character restart threat.

If you plan to uninstall Rebuilt at some point, be aware there "might" be a special console command to be typed first so as not to brake your game. I might be wrong on this, it's been a while. Just check the readme to be safe.

The reason KR gets more posts is because it's the more widely used. There are external circumstances for why this is, but there's nothing particular broken or buggy about KR.

You do need to follow what the readme says to do if you plan on uninstalling it though, especially if you've played into it far enough. Otherwise it will break something. But that breakage is entirely the user's fault for not reading the procedure.

Kvatch Aftermath is loaded with dirty edits as well so it definitely needs Tes4Edit cleaning if you plan on using it.
