How much Hard Drive space will Skyrim take up?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 3:47 pm

Ok, we know that Oblivion with no mods took up 4.6 GB. How much will Skyrim take up? Also what kind of processors and RAM's do you think we will need? Do you think a laptop with the following internals could work.

Intel? Core? i7 2630QM 2.9GHz 6MB processor and a
500GB 7200RPM SATA 3GB Hard Drive
Memory card is 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
Video Card is 1.5 GB DDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M
LCD Panel is a 14' High Def+ (900p/1600x900) with WLED Backlights

remember its a laptop so the numbers and hard drive space arent as big as your guy's computers.

I think Skyrim will almost double Oblivion in gig size. I'd also recommend a cell processor.

if you are worried about HD space then it's time to upgrade or dump a looooot of extra garbage on your computer :)

I heard they wouldn't have much trouble fitting the game on a single DVD because they've mastered new compression techniques.

Better compression means way more material for the same amount of space.

I'd be guessing around the mark of 10g. Possibly more. If Skyrim's as amazing as the legends do tell... Welp, I'm hoping it's more.

You should have plenty of space with 500GB. If not, try to find a 1TB upgrade. I don't know what laptop hard drives cost, but desktop 1TB drives are only $50 these days.

3GB RAM is sort of lame (no reason not to have 4GB now) but it's fine. Your processor only turbos to 2.9GHz by the way, its usual clock speed is 2.0GHz, but that should be plenty if Skyrim utilizes four cores. What's your GPU?

4GB ram? Why not have... 3 4GB ram...s? XD

You should deff' be fine with 500GB, unless your entire computer is clogged up with stuff.

my hard drive is so old, when I was trying to figure out the bios with the new motherboard one of my friends asked if my motherboard was 2tb, because it showed how much memory it had, and I said no it has 200gb :(

You'll need a video card as well, and know what resolution you'll be running it in.

Ah okay, I see your edit. The 3GB was 3GB/s for the hard drive. 4GB is RAM is fine, all you need for gaming.

According to http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GT+555M that graphics card isn't very good. Of course, their 5970 scored lower than their 5870 so  . It'll be adequate, don't know if you'll be able to play on High or not. That depends on the game itself. If they optimize it right your laptop shouldn't run any slower than a console, that's for sure.

I'm hoping Skyrim to be around anywhere from 10 - 30 gigabyte.

Small enough to fit onto a DVD, plus extra space for DLC and a potential expansion. In the end, I'd guess anywhere from 8-13 GB. 20 is probably pushing it.

I would say 15-20gb is a good estimate.

8gb is my guess. But I know for a fact that my Skyrim related space will double no matter the size once mods come out.

Most big games now are 10-20 gb as far as I know, so I'm guessing around that for Skyrim.
