Any information about this particular annoyance?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 11:11 am

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9BLlE-rOgY&feature=related is an example of Oblivions/New Vegas/Fallout3's ......not sure if I should term in Ragdoll system but it was annoying that enemies who should clearly go flying into the abyss snap back in place from where I sent flying from?

from knocking them into the heavens where they should glide into oblivion via trajectory simply come back at my feet and get up >_> even more so I never notice NPC's taking fall damage when they are actually FALLING instead of only taking damage when they are on their own two feet.

any Queries? the Dragon death in the Skyrim Trailer has me hopeful but that could be as scripted as the wraith death animation in Oblivion :P however I've been given no reason to think it would be the same as in Oblivion with regards to the problem in question :D

The new Havok Behavior should remedy this. It's the most sophisticated tech available right now.

You had a good attitude.

I'll be happy if they remove the book poltergeist infestation, but better ragdoll behavior would be greatly appreciated.

1. that is not bad ragdolling that is bad programming, it didnt update the persons coordinate so it tries to get up the same place it got knocked down

2.ragdolling will never be totally fixed, no matter how good of a game there is going to ragdolling issues

3.bethesda is making the collision this time so it may be better

4.those are the greatest glitches in the world :D

5. The ragdolling greatly improved between Oblivion and fallout because it took into accound the acceleration of gravity

I don't really care about how the ragdolls look; my problem is how difficult they can be to move into a proper position. I'd like to recreate The Lusty Argonian Maid with corpses, but they never work out right. Then I'm left with a bunch of corpses in stupid positions lying about the countryside.

In addition to position updating (which is what I have more of an issue with than actual ragdoll) the npc's in NV seem ptedisposed to some really awkward positionins like the disco point or legs uniformly pressed up together as if they are dying in a formal occasion, they do not handle changing elevation well either.

Grant it though there are some excellent examples of defeated enemies.

The beauty of a few months on the forums is: I think what you just said is hilarious, but it's possible that I misunderstood and that this will turn into a separate thread involving a new feature request for Skyrim.

Don't think I've ever seen that ragdoll problem happen in Oblivion, but I do wish the ragdoll physics applied equally all the time, that is to say in the middle of combat instead of just with the killing blow.

Never really had any ragdoll issues in Oblivion. In Fallout 3 & NV, it was more.... randomly hilarious? :)

(Like the time I counter-sniped the sniper in Minefield, from the cliffs above his hideout - and his corpse flew through the air and landed at my feet. Made looting him much more convenient! And then there was the hilarity of those random stretchy black rubber-band men, twisting and cavorting across the sky. That was always interesting to see..... :D)

...stuff like that was actually pretty rare for me, in the Fallout games.

I think I'll test the Havok system in Skyrim by recreating the scene from King Kong where a stampede of dinosaurs tumble down a steep incline..... 7,000 steps and a herd of Mammoth should do the trick.

I liked the ragdoll physics on the bodies, but the glitch where they go flying, only to get back up where they were "knocked down" svcked indeed.
Although I didn't see it much in Oblivion. Maybe my memory fails me. If that is indeed what you are talking about, and it happened often (because I don't trust my memory) then I agree it should be fixed. If you mean the ragdoll physics on bodies after they die, I enjoyed it but it could be tweaked to be better.

I think this bug only appeared in New Vegas, I don't remember seeing it in Oblivion or FO3...

I killed plenty of people by knocking them off high cliffs, particularly Sinkhole cave right outside Imperial City.

I've stood on a rock on a steep incline as a wolf would try to figure out how to get at me and each time he tried to circle out and away he'd catch air and I could hear him yelp each time he landed. He circles 4 or 5 times and he's dead. NPC take fall damage just like we do, problem is that after the first time they should be looking for alternate route that avoids that damage. It would be nice if the AI is smart enough to remember damaging environmental hazards and avoid them.
