Torches as weapons?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 7:00 am

This is a question I havent seen asked but I could be wrong, anyway torches are in the game do you think with skyrims new combat system you could dual wield with a one handed weapon and actually use the torch as a defensive or offensive weapon? Theoretically it could be used as either granted not very effective but i think it could be interesting to be cave diving come upon some blood thirsted creature and slap them upside the face with a flaming torch. Thoughts?

I think there was a thread on torches recently that included the idea.
But I'm all for it.

With this new system of dual-wielding, it could work pretty well. Just treat it was an one-handed axe with low durability and fire damage and stun effect and it's all I need to play aragorn. Oh and let me throw it too :)

With the new mechanics i think itd be cool for the torch to be more than a huge candle, might even be effective against some of the undead.

This idea could be interesting with the new spell effects. It would be cool to light foes on fire.

in two worlds two you could dual wield a 1h weapon and a torch, the torch had it's own special skill which i believe stunned your target, pretty neat.

Well thats actually can work, since was moded into Oblivion and was in some other games.
Torch is blunt weapon (like staffs and maces in Morrowind) enchanted to do fire damage on strike with chance add fire damage overtime, but also has light enchanting with constant degradation of enchantment charge and durability overtime when equipped disadvantage (from Daggerfall), so you can put your torch into inventory and it will stop emit light but also since you unequip it will stop degrade overtime, and drop your torch to the ground it will still emit light and if throwing system will be implemented can be thrown at enemy,
since enchanting and durability will degrade overtime their power can degrade also so torch can light smaller radius and do lesser damage if burned already.

It's an awesome idea, but I can't be sure Beth has implemented it just because of the combat system. I mean, they limit you from blocking if you have a 1-handed weapon and a spell, which is frankly moronic. I understand it's done in the name of balance, but it's just poor design, and players will realize it makes no sense. There are other ways it could have been dealt with.

I don't think they would need much work. They would be like blunt weapons with fire damage on strike. I would love that. Also throwable weapons. I like that in Rune so much. And that other game, Severance.

I like the idea of using torches as a weapon. It would be cool to duel-wield torches against vampires or other creatures that hate fire. Maybe we could have a two handed tiki torch to swing around. :flamethrower:

Sure, why not? I'd really like to give the Draugrs a pasting with a torch.

Here's an idea.
Rather than make torches club weapons, which they are not really designed as, do this:
Make 1 handed mace & 2 handed morningstar weapons with a tubular metal handle in which a compatible torch can be affixed, leaving the burning torchhead exposed in the center of the weapon top end?
