Witch-Warriors of Skyrim

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 7:55 am

I found a page about the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Nordic where it is mentioned that the runes on the weapons are made by the witch-warriors of Skyrim.
What are your thoughts on the matter? Should they be in, possibly as a faction? Should it be an own style of weapons(runes, of course)?
And btw: is that page accurate? I couldn't find the source for the info.

I have put a summary of my speculation of my thoughts in post #19.

Without knowing anything about them, I think they shoudl be solely based on the fact that their name sounds awesome.

Any Nord that uses magic and wears armor could easily fit that description. I really don't see where you're getting the idea that this is something inherently special.

I don't know but I really hope we get some Nordic Silver weapons! I really liked them in Bloodmoon. Maybe the witch warriors will be in one of the magic factions.

Sounds interesting

As time goes by, we will have to endeavour to educate ourselves on the matter :grad:

The Glenmoril Witches are supposed to reside in Skyrim. We've seen them since Daggerfall, so I'm sure they'll have some minor role in Skyrim, at least, but honestly, I'd like them to get a bit more attention--certainly not a joinable faction, but some additional lore as there's really not a whole lot of info on them.

Perhaps Witch-Warrior is another name for Battle-Mage?

If they are faction I would guess they have some similarities with the Ashlanders(not sure why, but I would expect them to be clans with connections to the Glenmoril Witches). If they are a clan(or clans) I hope you can be adopted into them like with the Ashlanders.
Kakistos: I think they might resemble the Battlemages, but be more combat focused(based on the fact that they have an own style of weapons and the name itself).

Unless I've got this completely wrong, they basically enchanted weapons with magic/runes, right?

If so, it'd be cool to go hunting graves for powerfully enchanted weapons or something.

Yes, runes, but it leaves the option to enchant with soulgems.

Does anyone know what source was used for the uesp page?

I asked about this on the lore forums once. Not a lot known, mostly speculation but the threads http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1094595-the-legendary-witch-warriors-of-skyrim/page__p__16032889__hl__witch+warriors__fromsearch__1#entry16032889

Interresting.
I hope it is more to the Witch-Warriors than simply female battlemages that practice dark magic. IMO it should be a clan(or clans) living in Skyrim with their own culture. Even if it is called witch-warrior I have no trouble imagne a male one.

Well, they have found another way of enchanting weapons(and therefor, possibly armor) without the usage of soulgems so it is something special about them except the awesome name.

Hey, I'm a Skyrim Barbarian. Like I'd fall for that.
The Red Mountain has some nasty effects on Nords, back in Morrowind... Not on me. :D

Traditionally, "witch" applies to both genders.

Possibly off-topic, but the Reachmen could be related and would also be a cool addition even if in dlc/ep. No game citation there either though...

Could be interresting to encounter the Witchmen of High Rock on the western border, and it might be a connection between them and the Witch-Warriors of Skyrim.

My own speculation on the Witch-Warriors:
I would guess they are a clan(or several) with their own culture, possibly with connections to the Glenmoril Witches.
They have either passed the art of "rune-enhancing"(with a lack of a better word. See http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Nordic) weapons, or they trade with merchants.
They practice magic that is possibly outlawed by either the College of Whispers, the Synod or the Empire.
They might have a similar sosial standing as the Ashlanders in Morrowind, being distrusted by most people.
If it is a Witch-Warrior clan I hope you can be adopted in, but you have to prove yourself.
They might teach you how to rune-enhance weapons(like a perk, but not one that is chosen on lvl up).

Anyone else have thoughts on the topic?

I'd place them near Whiterun since it was once ruled by a Witch-Queen and make them followers of Shor/Lorkhan which would give them reason to oppose Alduin and be possible allies for the PC. A quest related perk seems a good way of handling their rune-enhanced weapons. Hopefully you could use it with smithing and/or enchanting and the runes would be visible on the weapon.

A clan seems like a good idea. Mixed six certainly but female leadership (ok, not strictly necessary but it'd be nice)

Actually quest related perks might be a good way for representing how you learn to make more unusual armour and/or weapons like Nordic Trollbone as well.

Really? I didn't know about the Witch-Queen.
I agree that it would be natural to have female leadership, maybe a Witch(their version of a Wise-Woman perhaps), but about the same amount of each gender in the clan. Quest realted perks that affect crafting(of any kind) is one of the things I hope for, but not to many of them.
