Walled cities? Boo hoo.

No point in crying over this, Bethesda is still going to get your money.

My guess is all the AI loaded into one giant cell is too much for the CPU in the consoles.

Probably for a lot of lower end PC's too, but PC's can scale the graphics back, so I'm not sure how much of an issue open cities would be.

Like i said earlier i have a beast of a machine and avg 50-60 fps with QTP3, RAEVWD and the animated window lighting and chimney smoke system . Running open cites on top of that murders my frame rate and drops it down into the low teens even when I'm not looking directly at the cities. In Skyrim's defense though Oblivion is one of the most unoptimized engines ever created and from what I've heard Skyrim will include some form of AI occlusion culling that will dramatically decreases CPU hit by AI in other cells. Chances are pretty good that running open cities in Skyrim won't be as resource intensive as Oblivion but it's still likely to be too much for the consoles.

"So our bigger cities still have walls that load you... if we were on a next gen system that's something we wouldn't have to do but at the end of the day the experience is kind of the same, as you'll just be walking smoothly into that city, as opposed to clicking a door, waiting for a load, and then going in."

Seperate cells. :violin:

You're correct. When Todd talks about walking smoothly into a city, he's describing the next gen experience which he says isn't that different from clicking a door and entering. As someone pointed out, once they have open cities in a next gen game, he'll say how awful the separate cells were. I can't knock his hustle, though.

I was disappointed by the separate cells for cities confirmation, but I'm over it already. Skyrim is going to be HUUGGE, Florida, HUGGGGGE!

There's no war. Todd even said if they were working on the next gen consoles, there might be no need for loading in separate cells. Fact is fact. The consoles ARE outdated in terms of hardware.

That doesn't mean they aren't any good at all though. I have a 360 myself for the Gears series, and a Wii so I can play Animal Crossing religiously.

Someone posted something about at least 10 structures per village, now. I don't know how reliable that info is, but if it's accurate, I am also very interested in villages now. They used to be just a place to pick up one side quest.

At least villiages wont be included in cells they will have more structures than border watch and more npcs than border watch it'll be fun this time.

210th post lets keep it going.

Another small let down in Skyrim. Sad.

I also wonder how dragons will be able to attack cities then and how it will happen seamlessly.
