they are decent pieces but they are obviously not real concept art from Bethesda

Looks like the artist was trying to get more attention from these than deserved, and backed off when questioned? I doubt he just mis-used the word "commission."

There are a few that I could buy as official, but that first one, while cool, was pretty out-of-place.

+1

It also seems that the landscape is too, erm, "open"
My guess is that some talented concept artists used SKYRIM so more people would view them.

this

Highly skeptical of this. The art direction/graphical styel appears to be different.

and this

Glad they're fake. Good drawing but I'm not an anime fan, and everything was just too cute to be TES.

My suspicion is that the guy doesn't know the difference between "commissioned" and "sent it in without being asked". If it's the latter he probably got the equivalent of a "Nice work but does not meet our needs at this time" rejection letter.

Reading the quotes in MK-{OmegaX}'s post, I get the impression that the artist isn't a native English speaker, so it's possible that he doesn't know what "commision" means in this context. It seems to me that what the images really are is fanart, and should be regarded as such, that's not how Skyrim is actually going to look, even if I didn't realize they weren't actual commisions by Bethesda, I'd say that because the art direction is quite different from what we've seen of Skyrim, and saying that the images weren't drawn by the same artist as Bethesda's own concept art wouldn't adress that as Bethesda would presumably want to keep the style of the game consistent, so if there were concept images that didn't fit in with the desired style, they'd probably not use them.

Yeah, I saw no indication that that artist was actually claiming to be an official concept artist for the game.

Also, the art is pretty nice, but it is obviously not professional level, so I really don't see how anyone could be tricked into thinking it was official art.
