OBGE-Oblivion Graphics Extender

Post » Wed Nov 18, 2009 12:00 am

SSAO stands for Screen Space Ambient Occlusion. It gives objects its own shading basically, producing puesdo shadows on the object. Yes SSAO is one of those high impact shaders but the results are pretty sweet. Look at all the morrowind pics of SSAO, they're pretty ballin'

Yeah, here are a few of mine:

I think that ATM you can't use Scanti's plugin and AA at the same time. I could be wrong, but Scanti would be able to clarify.

ok, so i downloaded the SSOA, Godsray, and Depth thing, put them in my Oblivion->Data->Shader folder, and then i start up my game, i open the console, type in "ShowTestShader"... console says thats like an unknown command or something like that. i see im supposed to download Scanti's OBGE updates... what/where is that?
i seen on page 2, the Scanti's thing, so i downloaded that, will go see if it works, sorry for this if it does :(
kind of hard to find the things to download :\

Search thread. I've linked everything multiple times.

If ALL information about anything released isn't in the first post, it should be. (hint, hint) That way we could cut out the time spent looking for links and the same questions being asked multiple times per page (not a dig at questions, if it's not obvious, they will be asked).

EDIT: Oh good.

I just checked the OP again, looking better, but a few suggestions:

- Link to Scanti's plugin v3.
- A BIG notice stressing how alpha this stuff is. It'll save us all some hassle down the line when this starts getting more heard-about and complainers move in.
- Detailed install instructions. Since the project is currently fragmented, one place that explains what to install and how and how to get it working would be very handy for users.

Im trying to detail stuff in the OP as much as I can. Im also thinking of possible questions to add to the FAQ that may pose as potential problems.

First post updated with a more indetail FAQ. Please consult that before asking questions. If your answer is not there, state your question so it may be added to the FAQ and have a good reference for future users.

Common questions answered like the godrays searchlight effect and why OBGE console functions won't work.

yeah, i installed it and now im getting a white-screen thing. when i look at the sun/moons its completely white, then when i look at other things it looks like its all just black n white. i think i did everything correctly... sorry for bugging you guys, i realize your all kind of tired of this kind of thing, but i honostly dont know what i did wrong.

/is this the godray's "searchlight" effect? im not really sure what searchlight effect does, but if you think i have it i can upload a pic that the OP can link to on the first post, so that everybody knows what it looks like.

State your problem more indetail.

What is your shaderlist?
What shaders do you have active?
Are you running OBSE with Scantis plugin?

The searchlight is having just one beam coming from the sun that makes it look like a search light

Disable HDR, Use Bloom and use the no sun glare patch,

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/519253/NoGlare.7z little mod should make your godrays look a bit better. It basically disables the sun glare texture that the game engine adds. You have to disable hdr (and maybe bloom) for it to work.

If you don't like the effect then to remove it go to your data\textures\sky directory and delete sunglare.dds.

or read my post and tweak your values to reduce it, but, not completely get rid of white effect or blue tint if you have hdr enabled and sun glare enabled.

Edit:

Ampolx can you add the NoGlare Patch to first page..

A bit off-topic but does anyone know how to extract the Aurora engine's shaders from the cache package ? Does the toolset help with this matter ?

Well you can still use HDR and Godrays. Scanti's fix eliminated most of the excessive whiteout in the sky when gazing directly at the sun. If stuff is still too bright, you can edit the lines Corepc used to suit something for you.

PS. In godrays shader there are some tweakables.
//edit for sunshafts intensity decay exposurefloat Density=0.9;float Decay=0.99;float Weight=0.44;float Exposure=0.22;//sky brightpassstatic const float Luminance = 0.44;static const float fMiddleGray = 0.99f;static const float fWhiteCutoff = 0.99f;//edit for light colorness, lower the value for more desaturated ray colors...static const float saturate = 0.540f;

Lowering exposure will lower the power of godrays. Lowering 'decay' will shorten them. With lowering fMiddleGray you can lower how much of the bright parts of the sky would create the rays. Commenting last 2-3 passes at the end you can see what parts of the sky enters the shader or only lightshafts before merging them with original image...

God Ray Tweaks - what to change..and info..

Luminance, WhiteCutoff, float Saturate, play with those variables if using hdr and sun glare..

Heh, been a while since I posted here...

I think the last thing I posted was a series of Photoshop filters that produced godrays (as an example of a postprocessing filter). I come back a few months later and you lot have the effect working in-game :o

Good show, keep up the good work.

In my honest opinion, I kind of like this bug effect when the rays illuminate through particles. In some cases it looks pretty odd, but when your casting spells at the sun, or looking at candles that happen to be in the sun's ray path, things look really cool.

I hope we fix the issue of the ray shadows actually casting dynamic puesdo shadows. Both morrowind godrays and Phal's Sunshaft rays managed to achieve this effect. I think we can too.
