Oi folks, this is getting out of hand :cold:
all I was saying was that: if you want my short instructions: don't use Internet Explorer to surf the web. Full stop. Use http://foxit-pdf-reader.en.softonic.com/, for instance, to open *.pdf-files. Of course, the more popular it gets, the more nasty exploits are being tried. I am not a Microsoft basher, on the contrary. I earn my living using their products to write software, some people dole out a lot of cash for. Some of these products are simply great. Some are plainly not so.
The very design decision to make a browser capable of launching a process with system rights makes it a hot target. All other browsers are simply programs" that inherit all restrictions from the current user. Plus, if you don't shoot at Internet Explorer, then all of a sudden you are faced with an entire "zoo" of browsers - with totally different attack vectors. So in short: even MSIE 7 (Pro!) is a very nice browser; use it on your intra net. Number 8 is even better. But there still are pretty nasty exploits out there which will lead to code being executed as "system" and not just as "you". It is not very likely that anyone who possesses these skills will actually use them
in your company - so the use of MSIE for a corporate network browser can still be definitely considered safe.
I still prefer my http://www.opera.com/, though :celebration: :flamethrower:
The common sense, not to enter my credit card details on some dodgy kind of site, I thought, went without saying. And of course, you
are totally right: first of all goes common sense, nay, even alertness on the wild wild web. What you surf is what you get.
Ah well, my skin is made from asbestos. :flame:
Get it on!
