Sleeping in the wilderness

Post » Tue Nov 24, 2009 3:35 am

I have not been keeping track really closely, so have no idea whether there is any news on this.

*In Morrowind, when you sleep in the wilderness you have a chance of being woken up and attacked.

*In Oblivion, you are guaranteed a good nights sleep, period. However you first need to get away from the annoying message that won't let you sleep. 'You cannot rest, there is a creature around.'

Which do you prefer, which would you like to see implemented in Skyrim. Or do you know what actually is going to be in Skyrim?

What about a small chance of being attacked when you sleep in a tavern. A very small chance, but still a possibility.

I want something like a bedroll to carry around so that you can sleep wherever you like, damn the consequences.

I like the idea of my sleep getting interrupted if I choose to sleep in a dangerous area. Even if it's only a minor one, it adds another layer of depth to the game.

I think it would make houses more useful and valuable if they are the only place you are guaranteed a good rest and healing. Sleeping in the wilderness becomes dangerous especially if you have low health. Getting to an inn or back home becomes a priority, especially if it is night and all the shops are closed so no health potions available.

I like this idea as well as the bedroll one mentioned earlier....or maybe let us set up a small camp like in RdR

It would be cool if you could set up a bedroll, and then cast a detect life spell around the campsite so you can clear out any creatures that may be lurking. If you fall asleep with dangerous creatures nearby then you are woken up not long later, but if you kill them before you sleep theres only a TINY chance that your sleep will be interrupted by a baddie.

If we have camps, houses will be totally unnecessary and should then cost much less than in OB.

About interuptions, imo, only in the wilderness. Or quest related like it has been earlier.

Maybe if we have companions when we set up camp we can set them to 'watch' and that guarantees an uninterrupted night. They will only 'watch' for a few hours though. They have to sleep too.

Be really cool if then we did watch duty while our companion slept, although we have the 'fast wait' option like in Oblivion. If we don't have this camp set up then I can pretty much guarantee a mod could put it in.

Does anyone remember the traps you could make in the first Far Cry game? I would be cool if you could set something similar around your camp before bedding down for the night. Imagine waking up and finding the corpse of a bandit impaled on one of your spike traps. :celebration:

i like to have a camping set, a tent and tuff like that.
That i can Place in the world, The Go to sleep, And being interrupted depending on the situation.
Interupted by bandits, having stuff stolen, beeing ataqued by creatures. etc.
all that could be cool.

I like the idea of camping out with a bedroll.
Maybe we can have a little longer prequisite list to set up a camp than just having a bedroll or a tent like light fire, have clear ground etc.
This can be combined with the fact that there are more chances of one being attacked by creatures due to the light present.
Would be awesome if you are sleeping and you are suddenly woken up by a Dragon :D

I want to be able to sleep even when an enemy is nearby (unless they have actually attacked me). If I sleep near one, I would eventually be interupted, and it would cause me to have some kind of disadvantage (perhaps I need to spend a second or two standing up?).

I think this could really help with those situations where there's a rat stuck behind a tree that you just can't find, stopping you from resting. Also gets rid of my magical enemy sensing abilities.

That's why houses need to have a. Bigger perk. Storage is one. I doubt Skyrim will have any horses you can kill and stuff goods in and then have reapear so you can be on ur marry way.

Setting up a tent with bedroll and a little fire would be awesome.
As we know there will be flameable area for some time, maybe you can have one with unlimited burningtime in the settings to carry around, so that you can lay it down somewhere and cast a fire spell on it :o
Hmm, maybe more the idea of how we can realize that with mods^^
But would be very cool, perhaps we now can also carry around some sticks and stones like it was in Crysis.

And I prefer the Morrowind way, but there you weren't able to sleep cause there is an enemy, too, the other thing was just a feature as far as I remeber. And please don't make such a big radius, I mean, there's a rat sitting in a tree 5 miles away but I can't come to rest due to dangerous creatures, c'mon?!
btW, does enyone else have the problem of beeing interrupted by a dark assassin every second night while playing morrowind with tribunal installed? How annoying but good for business ^^

I hate random encounters appearing from nowhere...

I hate it when I clear out an area, double check that there are no more enemies in the nearby rooms, but I'm still attacked by enemies that literally came out of nowhere just to annoy me. You should only be interrupted when there are actual enemies nearby, like if you sleep in a bandit camp, you should be woken up when the bandits come home.

Hehe, same ;)
Wanted to use it in Battlefield 2 but there were to many guys around with the nick so that I had to use a hundred Ns^^
Luckily I only need to have 3 of them in BC2 =p

/OT

While we have those animations for cooking, wood cutting and so on we could also have one for building up a tent or making fire with sticks and stones if we're no mages.

We definitely need tents. I loved my tent in Morrowind and Oblivion, although they were both added by mods.

The General stores could carry camping equipment like tents (a variety of sizes), fire lighters or the whole camp fire set up, stools to sit, bedrolls, lutes to play around the camp fire (they play a tune when you carry and activate them), portable lanterns that you can place for light and can carry, fishing rods to catch some dinner if you camp by a lake, a pot that you can activate that cooks fish or meat in your inventory.
