It seems that mods are also possible on consoles. That would be an great improvement over the old engine!

I think it's better stated as mods COULD work on consoles.

There's several factors that have to be accounted for. Do MS/Sony want mods on their consoles, how would they implement this, is there a cost, as well as what types of mods will run on the console hardware.

A lot of this (like getting MS/Sony on board, as well as the implementation) will take time. And you'd be limited drastically by what mods you'd be able to run. It's better off they wait until next gen to give MS/Sony time to work out everything with Beth, as well as getting better hardware.

This was announced about 2 weeks ago.

Todd was quoted in a previous article as saying that Bethesda will be exploring the possibility of this with Microsoft and Sony, but who knows if it will ever happen.

i recall todd was saying that he is really considering doing something with mods for consoles but he highly doubts it will be up and working from the get go. it's something they wuld probably have to work on for a while before doing. also some mods break the game if poorly programmed so i think only certain mods would be downloadable. ones that have been reveiwed for good quality. I would seriously hate to download a crappy mod. anyway i would love to see mods on consoles but im gonna have to get a better hard drive for my xbox. im still workin with a crappy 12 or 13 gig or w/e. its horribleeeeee....but hard drives are so expensive.

As has been said, mods MIGHT be on consoles for Skyrim, speaking in terms of technology, it may be possible, but there are still other factors that must be accounted for, like whether Microsoft and Sony will allow it. Bethesda can't let console players have modded games if the companies that produce the consoles won't allow it. And even if console mods are possible, I think they'll be more limited than PC mods, if Bethesda distributes mods for consoles, console users will be limited to whatever mods Bethesda chooses to distribute themselves, and if console players can themselves create mods, they still wouldn't have access to the third party tools that will inevitably help modders with Skyrim.

In short, you probably shouldn't get too excited about this, Bethesda wants to do mods for consoles, but we don't know what will come of it yet.

I think the fact that it is possible is cool enough...

I think anyone who buys Skyrim on PS3 or XBox purely on the hope that there will be mods is being seriously naive.

There's zero indication from Microsoft or Sony that they would permit mods on those systems.

Indeed, I changed the title. It's by no means set in stone, but http://attackofthefanboy.com/news/elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-could-have-mod-tools-on-console/.

As an XBox player, it would be cool if they implemented something like this in the Marketplace. The same way they have amateur and indie games...they could have content based the same way...it would take a lot of manpower and time to go through the content and check it for viruses and bugs or whatnot...but it would be a very interesting thing to try in my oppinion...I don't know how the equivalent system works on PS3 but I think if it were possible on one, it would be possible on the other...

von vyren vuren varen daren. jaah.

But yes, that's old news. But I as a console player would very much like this, if only mods that add new weapons and armor types.

They were always possible. It was possible to force the 360 version of Oblivion to load esps / esms. This is more about making it officially supported.

Not DLC really...I mean in a way yes...but when you say DLC I think of things Bethesda releases...Im thinking more of a market corner of user creativity...

We'll have to see what happens regarding mods for consoles. It's good news for us console users knowing it could be done, but it ain't brilliant news yet, because it hasn't had the go-ahead.
I would personally lke to see it,it could be good for everyone. Another thing that was mentioned was that it could fetch PC and console gamers together more, but reading some comment's in other topics like this, that is not the case "it seems". A lot of PC user's are against this, though i don't know why. Like i said we'll see where it goes, but there could be a number of ways to do it,i'd imagine. How do we know bethesda won't set up a modding team, then treat it like DLC. I would pay for mods/DLC,and i think bethesda, microsoft and sony know this, but it's not as straight forward as that.It seems to me,the only thing stopping this,is whether microsoft and sony allow it.If they allow it,IT WILL HAPPEN. If it does happen we won't get all mods that are available on PC,but it will allow certain mods so we can extend our gameplay of skyrim. If there are ways to do this so all platforms can enjoy them, whats wrong with it?...We all contribute to sales. If it doesn't happen i'll still be happy with my xbox. I think things like this will definantly be available on the next gen of consoles, regardless of what happens on this gen.

It would be nice to hear one of the dev's views on this, the ones who appear on here often. Doubt that will happen though, but surely they would be allowed to dicuss this,if they so choose.

Not sure how MS would do it but Sony could do it the same way they did with Little Big Planet and Mod Nation Racers. Both of those games have tons of user generated content. It could be implemented the same way those games have it. The dev tools are available on the disk (not an issue for the PS3 due to disk size) and there would be dedicated servers to share the content with other PS3 users.

I think it would be really cool to have mods on consoles, but there would have to be some rating system for them to restrict certain mods reaching the consoles that MS or Sony wouldn't want (i.e. fully nvde character models)

I saw somewhere they had said that the only barrier was Microsoft and Sony. I guess that means that they know of a way to do it, they just need the nod from their masters.

This was announced a while ago. The console's use the exact same game engine, .esm files and textures/sounds/etc that pc's do. Of course mods are possible. The issue is getting MS and Sony to allow us to put them on consoles. That's where all the trouble lays. There was never a technical constraint.

I think that would be a nice option to have mods for console. I have only played TES games on console, but with Skyrim I am considering going for the PC version to have mods if I would want them. If mods could go to the consoles, I could stick with what I know.
