Should racial abilities and powers have perks or level up as

Post » Wed Nov 25, 2009 6:55 am

in morrowind and oblivion racial powers were kind of pointless once you levelled up a little bit. i would either like to see perks for them or that they level up as you use them more like a normal spell.

I agree with leveling, eye of fear just felt silly.

Definitely level up with the player. Once you get further along in the old games, those powers became useless. At least, to me they did.

Level up. Perks only if free through quests, not purchased with leveling.

Yeah, this could be a way to do it.

This would be a nice way of handling it.

Yeah, level it up, not have it waste away once you find a spell that does the exact same type of thing but stronger. But then again that also brings up the fact that there will be similar spells/perks/abilities that can be learned later on so is it even worth it?

Yeah, they have to scale with level, all my powers as a Khajiit were useless (never used Eye of Fear, and regardless of what archtype my character was, I threw 2600 gold for a set of magic candles and used them to make my own night-eye spell that lasted as long as i could make it and that took place of my night eye power.

It would make sense that as your character becomes more powerful, you powers become more powerful, but being forced to throw a tallent point at increasing the duration of a night eye power when i can just turn the tv's gamma up? no thanks. Make it scale with level.

Racial ability perk quests could delve into the different distinct cultures.

It's kinda true... some of the racial powers were useful at first, but once you got stronger and fought harder enemies, the racial powers became kind of useless. It would be cool if your racial powers got stronger as you leveled up.

Argonians should get short range detect life, like a heat sense.
Detect life shouldn't have any ability to detect undead & nonliving monsters such as golems/atronachs.

A quest series for developing each races abilities and learning about their history & origins would be fun & rewarding, as well as informative. I think two quests(1 racial perk gained upon completion of each) per race would be enough without going too far.

As much as I hate level scaling, that makes sense. It is my ability so it should get powerful as I go. But then I think there still needs to be a factor. Like binding it to magicka perhaps or illusion.

280 seems like an odd number for perks. As if 180 go to the 18 skills, and the 100 remaining go towards non-skills.

Not every skill has the same number of perks.
One interview mentioned 12 16 or 20 perks per skill.

I imagine crafting with the least and combat with the most..

I think they should level with you because most of them were more or less useless after like level 4, with some exceptions like water breathing and magic resistance.

I don't think that there's a single person who thinks they shouldn't level with you.I never did understand how a level 20 wood elf could only tame a rat.

I'm hoping they revert the Dumner's "ancestor guardian" racial back into some sort of buff rather than boring summon.

Well actually thats isn't hard at all to do and was done before with mods, its just leveling spells thats increase their potency with character thats grown in levels, nothing hard and make powers useful at all levels, why thats was not done before?

Racial abilities should be designed as best as possible to naturally scale-- such as using percents.

Racial perks is a really bad idea. You don't become "better" at being a certain race with age/experience..

The "racial perks" will be provided at character creation, when you select your race. I don't know whether they will scale, but you will get some perks based on your race when you start the game. Probably will be very similar to Greater Powers and Racial Resistances etc.
