Oblivion lock-up ONLY during loading new area. Help please!

Hello,

I am only getting lock-ups upon loading a new area. When the message (or right before the message) shows up to say loading new area my game will just lock up. I can ctrl-alt-delete it fine doesn't hard lock the computer.

It is very odd though why this is happening! It is not a memory problem, I have run memtest with no issues. This is getting very frustrating, please help me out. :banghead:

Make sure you have the hotfix for DR5, the original 5.0 combat moves esp had a freezing bug. The link is posted in the Tesnexus mod description.


Just read the above on another topic. Not sure if it is the cause of said freezing issue, but it's one to check off your list if you haven't updated it already...
The link for the hotfix is at the bottom of the description btw.

It's almost as if I went slower (say, walked on my horse instead of run) I wouldn't get a crash. Very strange.

Could it be the CPU overclock?

What could be causing FREEZES?! This is very frustrating, any help would be appreciated.

Anyone dealt with this before?

It is worth bringing your clock speed back to default to test. Overclocking can have strange effects on this game. Once you rule that out, you can test other things. But, your tests will be more reliable without the overclocking.

Is it possible to have a crash-free, lock-up free, CTD free Oblivion with mods?

I tried to do this as clean as possible and I am still getting crashes and such every so often.

Has anyone managed to get a completely stable or relatively stable Oblivion with 175+ mods or so. Including UL, BC, FCOM, QTP3, and the other big ones?

I find being near Better Cities very buggy for me, it may be that moDem's City Life is conflicting, but I downloaded the 2.1 version of City Life b/c Better Cities comes with a compatibility patch for that specific version.

I worry that it may be that one little mod that I added, such as Cliffs Better Letters or something little like that which is causing crashes.

So has anyone been successful in getting a very stable game with such a large amount of mods?

I would like just to be able to play Oblivion without there always being a probable chance that the game will crash. I never, ever crash when in caves or dungeons. It's when I get outside that I will get crashes, especially near cities.

I followed pretty much every step including Pyffing meshes.
I'm nearly crash free minus my Overclock that sometimes BSOD's on me. (just started doing it yesterday)
But my OC is @ 4.44ghz, so I kinda of expected to run into issues once I had my game heavily modded.

Best of luck, oh and I envy your CPU power!

EDIT: If you are OCing your GPU by chance, I would pull it back to stock speeds if you are, at least to test.
I can run stable with a CPU OC 90% of the time, but with GPU OC I always experience instablity.

As for mods, I don't use Modems City Life, but when I did, it crashed all the time for me. That was before the patch you are talking about though.
The best I can say is to uninstall mods and start new games to test for CTDs. Or, rebuild your mods from the ground up and re-test for CTDs on the
mods you consider suspicous. When I say test, try to shoot for 2 hours of stable gaming at a time. Sometimes build a load order is a slow task, but
if you add mods slowly, you won't have the headache of not knowing which mod out of the last 20 you installed is crashing your gem of a computer.

I'm personally attempting it(I have been at it for 2 days now).
First BAINing everything, cleaning every single mod(except some for being on the "do not clean" list and some where I clearly understand the intention behind the duplicate).

So far I've done FCOM and I've just realized that the official DLCs weren't clean either, cleaning those too and BAINed the clean mods(just finished). I've also done the unofficial patches.

I'm wondering about the PyFFIng steps in the "50 steps" tutorial. The original game didn't crash so does it really help to PyFFI those? Maybe it helps with memory problems?

Wow thank you for that link. I did the 300_test.esp for FCOM shown here - http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/convergence.html under the Testing section.

I had the vampire initiates attacking the vampires and in the goblin/fallen one cell they just stood there. In none of the cells were the factions fighting eachother except for the imp/rat/wolf ones. Is my FCOM setup F***ed?

Gahhhhh, this is all so frustrating. Its looking like I might have to re-install for the THIRD time. Takes the whole damn day to re-install.

And is that part about loading your game, then saving, and repeating activating each mod ONE by ONE really necessary?

So the way they are describing it is to load ONE mod, load your game, save your game, exit. Load ONE more mod, load your game, save your game, exit.

That would take years... :banghead:
