My Handy Dandy Hand Flashlight

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2009 2:41 am

I was just thinking about the line "energy courses through the hand, like bioshock." At the same time I was reading a topic about lamps and light sources. Now that I think of it there will most definitely be a spell that makes your hand a light source. It would be even cooler if it made it a beam that you could shine around. Could add some amazing ambience.

What do you guys think of this idea?

So sort of like Light in Oblivion? exept im guessing you mean having the Light spell in the characters hand like the Fire ones we've seen. You just made me think of another way it can be used, immagine it being like a charge you hold down the button and it slowly drains your magicka but the light becomes stronger.

if you hold it down long enough it can become like a laser! that is very powerful against creatures who fear light. That would be awesome.

I dunno about it being used like a weapon lol, but I also thought about how creatures would react to the light, at its brightest the players hand would turn away from them, palm outwards and blind any light sensitive enemies.

So it shines the light forward?

No, I'd rather have a shining ball above me that brightens everything.

That's actually a great idea... maybe not an actual laser, but light sensitive creatures (vampires?) should be damaged by light spells. That would be awesome.

The great part is we could ahve both. It seem like Skyrim has different spell effects, unlike oblivion where there were only two ways to cast a spell (ball and hands)

The light shining where the player faces could be like Touch, exept holding it down. And the ball one could be a spell cast on yourself, not sure about a ball but then again I have no better idea on how It could look.

I like the idea of artificial light that blinds enemies. How about if you hold down the spell it acts like a torch, and drains magicka for as long as you do so. Then if you have the spell equipped in both hands and hold both buttons it could fire a laser that blinds enemies. I only say this because otherwise you could just spam the spell with a weapon equipped and win fights a lot easier. Having to duel wield it and giving it a charge up period would reduce exploitation.

I've said it before; the light spell should be like a flashlight, but in your hand. Furthermore, if you charge it up enough and fire it in a burst, it should damage vampires and stagger all other creatures (if you're fighting in a cavern or outside at night, ie in dark places). Blind troglodytes are immune, Heroes III taught me that.

Then you hold down the button and it concentrates to brighten a small cone in front of you

That would result in a real mess during combat, when your hands are full with swords and shields. No thanks, I like Light just the way it is.

I'd like this instead of the area effect light spell in Oblivion. A beam makes it alot creepier in dark dungeons. If we have dark dungeons...

light sensitive enemies like vampires are damaged by the sun... errr... hole in the universe... (or whatever)... right? Not just light. So I wonder if that would make sense for a vampire for example, to be hurt by a light spell. I assume the sun or hole in the universe emits some kind of radiation, like our sun emits ultra violet light (that's typically what damages vamps right?), whereas a light spell doesn't. Correct? I mean, if a light spell has whatever effect the sun in Nirn has that is damaging to light sensitive creatures, then I guess it makes sense, but I don't know.
