I haven't got the game(waiting for a patch for 360) yet,but I'm really anxious to know if shooting outside of VATS is fun....

ADS with a shotty is a lot of fun. Every so often though the game glitches and you can't ADS.

well, i like how u can look down the (true) iron sights. kinda like a weird version on CoD. its still usefull to locate targets with VATS, then dissengage to shoot targets down your sights

I always have a lot of trouble aiming in F3 on the 360. I have some trouble in most games, but in some games it's quite easy and in some, for some reason, it's really hard. F3 is one of the games that's really hard. Don't know why. No matter how low I set the sensitivity I'm always all over the place while trying to aim. Forget about hitting a moving target.

Over on the wiki someone said they turned off the 90% damage reduction in VATS that made Fallout 3 so fun and easy. Is it true? because if it is I might never bother using VATS at all.

Same engine as fo3 so aiming is still really clunky.

I don't think they turned it off, but I'm pretty sure it's lower now. I've managed to get myself killed a few times in VATS so far.

having 90 percent damage reduction is one of the things that made VATS completely unfun in FO3 and nothing but an in game cheat. i can tell its a cheat cause i caught myself using it on occasion when im in a bind and then feel a bit dirty afterwards. i felt the same way about that little toy car gun that crippled limbs in FO3 that made deathclaws killable with a level 5 character. thank heavens obsidian decided to make the game difficult again and ive died more times in my first playthrough in new vegas than the entirety ive played FO3.

It's not much better IMO, enjoying game so far but Bethesda has always been awful @ combat. Luckily that's not the main focus of their games. >_<

Fallout's FPS aspect really suffers from the awkward/unrealistic movement of the PC and human NPCs, moving sideways and backwards as quickly as they move forward being the main problem.

It is for me.
I use both VATS and iron sight and sometimes when needed , for example fast backpedaling, the normal offhand shooting.

Course I use a PC with a mouse. I shudder to think what it would be like using some gamepad.

When the action moves fast I'd prob die a lot or just end up in VATS if I didn't have a mouse.

You don't feel like throwing a grenade at your feet and then VATSing something and telling me how much damage it did vs how much damage it should've done, do you?

It is. I remember in FO3 I just relied heavily on VATS since shooting myself wasnt as easy to do. Hell now with the iron sights and better aiming I am doing alot better.

Spoiler
Only down side is the boss at the end (I think its the end) is totally insanely overpowerful it also doesnt help when you have 10 legion members chasing you with power fists as well as the boss. Going to try again in the morning hopefully the incendiary and armor piercing .50 sniper rifle will take him down. If not well then ill have to build my level up and find something better.

I agree, I was trying to pop a Powder Ganger in Primm from a pretty good distance (VATS highest % was 8) and the guy was doing these lightning quick hops left and right while shoot and reloading. It was annoying to say the least.

I've noticed that some of the handguns work much better in close if you shoot from the "hip." I was getting a lot of misses ir glances when the baddie was whacking me in the head with a bat looking down the sights. I stop looking down the sights and then all seem to hit when really close.

It's been an issue as far back as Oblivion. There were enemies in the druid cave that would patrol like they were on 2x fast forward. Barely pausing at any point in their cycle, they'd move from point to point at a very fast walking speed making it nearly impossible to pull of a surprise attack with a bow.

Someday they'll add momentum to the character models and make it so that their feet have to touch the floor and they don't moonwalk/slide over terrain... and I want a pony.

It's a lot better then it was in fallout 3. I like the Iron Sights mode makes you feel like your shooting a real gun although I don't use it.
