New Vegas for Xbox or PC?

if your computer can handle it I would have to say pc, anything bethesda makes is better on pc because of the mods, it is like literally getting 8 extra games

im not sure about the wearing out the hardware thing since consoles are notorious for overheating and breaking all the time.

This is a good point which I didn't spot when I initially replied - generally in 20 years of PC gaming (and mostly building my own PCs) my experience has been that whatever job you buy/build a PC for it will continue to be able to do for years - the problem with PCs used to be that every 6 months or so a new generation CPU or GPU would come out and it would be a different configuration/socket than the one you bought not so long ago, so you had limited upgrade potential, and all PCs were permanently on the verge of having at least some component on its way to obsolescence. This trend really has slowed down a bit these days, I expect my new gaming PC to be good for 3 years of new releases rather than worrying about whether I'll be able to run something that comes out next spring! But how upgradeable are consoles?

However the computer I built in 1992 still runs when I plug it in and boot it up, and it can still run everything that I had in mind to do when I built it - not a single component in it has broken or worn out. I can still play the original CIV on it, or run a basic word processor, just the same as when I first built it - nothing in it has stopped working or worn out, it's only obsolete because gaming has moved on a lot since CIV I. The only major PC failure I've ever had was the result of putting a GPU with a fan into a computer without sufficient power supply to run the extra fan and that overheated, but that was totally my fault for not fully checking the power requirements - lesson learned.

Edit to add another thought: At least if a component in my PC fails I can lift the lid and fix it myself, usually within 30 minutes of returning from the shop where I bought the replacement component. I've never had anything go wrong in a PC that I couldn't fix myself, but I hear of plenty of people sending their consoles off for repair and having to wait ages to get them back.

I see you've pretty much already made your decision, but I'll post what I was going to anyway, since I've already got half of it typed up.

The first thing you need to ask yourself is do you have a good enough PC to run the game (from the way you described yours, it sounds pretty good to me).

Next, you want to ask yourself if you're willing to use Steam. (it's really not hard at all. You buy the game at a retailer or off Steam, you install it, and the installation process guides you through everything. All in all it took me about 5 minutes to start installing the game, and i don't even use Steam that much.)

That's basically all you really need. Then just come the perks:

With the PC, you have the ability to fix bugs with mods/console commands/the construction kit that you wouldn't have on the 360.
You can add almost anything you can think of to the game using mods. Literally. And you don't have to know how to make them. Just download the mods others make.
On the PC, you can choose between using a 360 controller or a keyboard and mouse.

Sure, in all it is a bit more complicated than just putting the disc in and playing like you would on the 360, but overall I feel it's a much more rewarding experience.

Umm... I have AT@T and the internet is like dial up so when I try to install anything from steam... well it takes up the whole week to download. Thats why I don't like steam is because you have to DOWNLOAD everything instead of getting it off a Disc.

Can you use wireless Xbox 360 Controllers with the computer? Since I've only got wireless and my mom won't let me take anymore money out than I have to buy Fallout: New Vegas and the other games I"m getting.

I'm biased to PC because I personally do find the mouse/keyboard to be better than a controller (yes I have a 360 too, and I HATE playing FPS on them). Also biased because my PC is hooked up to my HDTV....

PC all the way.

Also because my husband and I BOTH play this game, PC enables us to have 2 separate games. Although I guess that point isn't valid because you probably can have 2 save games on the 360 as well with separate gamertags.

Yep I'd go with the 360. As all the PC users love to state, their version is "superior". But what it comes down to is time and money; two things a lot of us are lacking. A lot of PC users know where to buy their parts cheap, or what works best for certain types of computers, or have friends who can give them discounts, etc. It takes time to learn/get all those things. Secondly, despite PC user's constant denial, it is more expensive. Even if you're very lucky (which I know I sure ain't) you'll be paying more for your PC, esp. when it comes to Anti-Virus type software. PC maintenance and issue resolving is much more complicated than a console also.

So if you're a casual gamer who just wants to have a good time without frustrating themselves or busting your wallet open the 360 is the best choice. Pop in, install (or not), and play.

Dont listen to the pc's!

Sure theres modding and the patch already out but with console:

1) No steam :D
2) No 6 gig install to clutter up pc
3) I dont know what pc users talk about when they say "Mouse r bettar controlz". They arnt. Console controllers ftw.
4) No being dissapointed that your comp cant even run it smooth on lowest settings with everything turned off.
5. CONVENIENCE. CONVENIENCE. CONVENIENCE!

Those are the dumbest reasons I've ever heard.

Should I get the New Vegas Series for the Xbox or PC? I'm not totally sure because if you get it for the PC you can do mods but then the computer wears down and for the Xbox you can't really do anything like make your own maps and such. I'm really on the verge of buying the computer game but I'm thinking about how much it would cost in the long run (Getting computer upgrade and other things). Are there any other things I should be concerned about either the Xbox 360 or PC?

I've played it on both, more on the PC, but I put about 4 hours into the 360 version as well. My thoughts, without slamming one platform or the other:

It depends a lot on your PC specs, you can have the fastest system in the world, but if you're sitting on a GTS250 or some low end 3D card, it's gonna run like ass. If you have the overall PC specs to run it, the PC version of the game is going to look a lot better and allow you to do things through mods and tweaking that you will never be able to do on the 360. Of course, you may not care about those things, and that's fine too. The 360 version still looks good (as good as a game running on an engine that is quickly approaching a decade old can look at least) and controls great. You'll also be the first to get the DLC coming out in December if that's something you're interested in.

If you are interested in mods, the number of New Vegas specific mods are ramping up at falloutnexus.com, it's pretty crazy how many there already are, but I guess of that has to do with most of them just being ported over to Fallout 3 to New Vegas.

It does use Steam. I personally have zero issues with Steam, it's always been pretty much 100% transparent for me when I game, and I have well over 200 games in my Steam account right now. I don't know anyone personally who uses it that has problems with it either, it's gotten to the point that if I can buy a game on Steam, I usually just don't buy it until I can. I set up a 1TB drive just for my Steam directory, and right now that directory is sitting at right at 450GB.

Both platforms are going to give you a great experience once the bugs are ironed out. Jeff at Giantbomb reported the game crashed on him a dozen times in 36 hours on the 360, I've had it crash twice on me in 7 hours, but both of those crashes were in the first 2 hours and I haven't had a problem since. It crashed on me 2 times in the 4 hours I played on the 360 as well, so obviously it's pretty busted across the board in some respects.

Whatever you decide to get it on, enjoy.

If you have a PC capable of running NV and you don't get it for PC you're doinitrong.

Dont listen to the pc's!

2) No 6 gig install to clutter up pc

5. CONVENIENCE. CONVENIENCE. CONVENIENCE!

1. Steam is awesome. It gives you so many plus sides I have to wonder what some people are smoking to not like it. And where I can get some for myself.
2. If a 6-gig install counts as clutter I'd hate to see your opinion of Windows.
3. I used both in Fallout 3. I hated the joypad. Aiming took forever, the barter menu didn't work properly and I couldn't access the dev console. Oh and I was absolutely useless in combat because I had to rely on a handful of AP instead of, you know, being able to manually pwn away till the Brahmin come home.
4. My rig's an absolute piece of antiquated equipment and it runs it beautifully. I'm still on Socket 939 and DDR1, for cryin' out loud! NV is hardly a difficult game to run.
5. I have conveience out the wazoo, and I don't have to worry about my machine RRoD'ing randomly. What's more convenient? Clicking "play" in Steam, or sending your xBox into Microsoft for the sixth time because it's an unreliable piece of junk?

It is more expensive but you also get a lot more use out of it. It's a trade off really. I'd love to have a 360 if I could plug my monitor, keyboard, and mouse into it. Having to use a "bumble stick" and TV (mine's not HD) would probably make me kill myself.

You are 100% correct in that if you don't want to fiddle with it then a console is going to be a better choice. I just can't get past those awful controllers. Watching my stepson use one on his 360 for FPS games and the YouTube vids of people using them in Fallout 3 make me want to cry.

1) I think Steam for the most part IS PC gaming now. Sure, you can get most games other ways, but Steam is what's keeping PC gaming on the map these days, and it's doing a damned fine job of it.
2) You're really not going to install it to the HDD on the 360? Seriously?
3) What.
4) King of Broad Statements, not everyone is limping along on a Gateway P4 w/ a 2nd generation Nvidia card.
5) Does it really get any more convenient than clicking an icon on a desktop on a PC you probably keep running all the time anyway? Oh yeah, I guess having to walk over, put in a disc, wade through the XBL menu is the peak of convenience. What.

Well I'll describe it any ways. It has 1 terrabyte with a i5 or i7 core with I think a 5870 HD Ati Radeon card and some other stuff I don't understand. I defeninitly can't find it on Bestbuy anymore. Sorry for any bad spelling or grammer.

Damn sweet rig for gaming! Would be a shame not to use it.

Yes, but you need a http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.31880.

I can play the game on my 24" monitor or my 40" 1080P TV with my controller. (Not that I do.) Best of both worlds with the PC.

Also, at least the PC version has a possibility of community fixes when issues arise, the consoles do not.

360
Play it no install to worry about
Patches just "work"
Added content coming your way first
Always looks good
No Steam!

PC
Install to play
Massive amounts of MODS
Make your own MODS
Looks amazing with the right graphics card / Screen
Normally costs less (not sure about this one!)
Keyboard / Mouse and or 360 controller if you want!
Addons - 3rd party you dont have to wait for DLC just go out there and grab whats available

I have it on the PC, but then im not a 360/PS3 type of person

I wish I had a PC that could run games nowadays... Really though, Bethesda games are begging for a good PC. I still play Oblivion on my PC. I have the belief that if it is designed for PC, you should get it for PC. Mouse and keyboard are much better, at least for FPS (don't think there's much difference for Fallout, though there is for Oblivion. Swinging swords with a controller always felt clunky to me).

And I friggan HATE Steam. Do you really have to have Steam to play? Can't you just buy a disc and install patches manually? If Steam is required you can forget it, never again will I play PC.

EXCACTLY!!! It took me a week to download Supreme Commander and that was only a few gigs and Imagine how long it would take to download Fallout. I find the Xbox360 more convenient as it auto logs me in and the game starts right away. I even got the disc and it forced me to download the game off the interenet....

Sshh! Don't tell my computer that! It installed from the DVD just fine!

The only thing it's downloaded are the patches that have been released so far...

... you know, the same patches that will be pushed out to the consoles after it's approved by Sony/MS?

Sigh, mouse and keyboard are objectively better than console controllers and no self respecting PC gamer would talk in that [censored] fashion.

If you have even a half decent computer you shouldn't be dissapointed.

PC all the way. MUCH easier to aim in my opinion (this is the reason that console games have assisted targeting like snapping to a target when you aim down the sights). Plus there are just several general advantages on the PC. Graphics (depending on the computer you have), mods, and so on. And why does everyone think that Steam is such a burden? Steam's auto-update function is great, it doesn't slow anything down that I know of. Plus it has an achievement system and a friends system. Steam is practically a free "XBOX LIVE"

PC! Why? Mods, mods, mods!

As for controls and stuff like that... keyboard + mouse or gamepad they both have their advantages and disadvantages.

A mouse is more precise and a gamepad allows smoother movements between walking and running which a keyboard cannot perform imo. Furthermore a gamepad can be easily installed on a pc.

But I don't care about this. I'll go for the mods, not only that, a pc allows me to have deeper access plus controls over the installed software tweaking all kinds of things.

A pc has a kazillion options while on a console you're stuck with the game as it is.

I'm probably going to make just a few of you PC gamers out there a little angry but I have to go with my Xbox 360 version. You guys say steam is not a hassale... I do. My internet is horrible and that says why.

My FINAL choice is with the Xbox 360 even though my mind still has a headache on the disadvantages and advantages and how I'll be disappointed if I got either one.

P.S.
Reasons: Steam Drives me nuts because I can't get play games because I can't log in to play steam.
My internet svcks for steam.
I've got a big mental urge to get both games but I'm going to get the Xbox 360.
I've never been successful at FPS games on the computer.
My computer glitches out a lot even though it is new... weird.
Popping in the disc seems a lot easier than downloading it upgrading it and doing all that stuff on the computer including keeping up with the attacking viruses I get a lot.

PC. If for no other reason than the modding community's Unofficial Patches. All the little fixes that are necessary, yet will never be dealt with on the consoles.

BTW, as far as Steam's auto-updating is concerned... you guys know you can turn that off? Flick it back on when you know a patch is out.

If your PC can handle it, don't hesitate. Some games are great to play on a console, some are great to play on PC, when you play them on the opposite platform it always feels like you're playing half a game. In my opinion this game is better suited for a PC. My 2 cents.

In the end though, do what you feel most comfortable with. I admit my bias towards PC, because that's just what I'm personally the most comfortable with.
