My Snipers Loadout

Post » Wed Dec 16, 2009 6:04 pm

My Sniper is currently level 15 and I'm on Hard difficulty and hardcoe. I'm having trouble deciding what weapons for my loadout... I tend to like silent ones for takedowns since my sniper is quite vulnerable to powerful enemies so.. Yeh..

--Heres my current loudout--

1st Recon Beret
Recon Armor
Sunglasses (:D)

10mm Pistol (3 Mods)
C-4 Explosives
Detonator
Cowboy Repeater (3 Mods)
Sniper Rifle (1 Suppressor Mod)
Frag Grenades
Pulse Grenades

Normal 10mm Rounds
Ap and Normal .308 Rounds
Ap and Normal .357 Rounds

--And my future..--

1st Recon Beret
Chinese Stealth Armor
Rebreather

Anti Material Rifle
1.27 Pistol (Silencer Mod)
-------------- (What else?)
Pulse Gun (The one that one hit kills robots)
Plasma Grenades
C-4 and Detonator

1.27 Pistol Ammo
Anti Material Rifle Incen, AP, and Normal Rounds

So.. Advice? Fixes? Suggestions?

Silencers aren't really needed on long range weapons since you'll be far enough away that no one will see you, especially by the time you've had a chance to hide. Other than that, looking like a pretty good build.

*Master Sniper steps forward*

Try to travel lighter, Reinforced Leather instead of Recon. Oh, and try to get survival at 45 even if you don't plan to use it and take the perk Travel Light, some level 4 perk which increases your speed by 10% when in light armor.
Get your repair up to 70 at least, and take the Hand Loader perk, which allows you to make a very cheap sniper ammo that does about 25% more damage with no drawbacks.

A couple rifles you may be interested in: (Gobi requires 100 lockpick, but oh so worth it).
Gobi Campaign Scout Rifle: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Gobi_Campaign_scout_rifle

RatSlayer: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Gobi_Campaign_scout_rifle

The Gobi does less base damage than a regular rifle, but has a much higher crit chance, and with 10 luck/1st recon berret, you will crit 100% of the time.
Ratslayer is just a nice looking varmint rifle with upgraded damage and all possible mods for the varmint rifle including: Night scope, Silencer, extended mag.

Also, a unique cowboy repeater: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/La_Longue_Carabine
It has a mid-range scope, but it can be tricky to acquire.
MAKE SURE YOU SAVE BEFORE DOING THIS!
Engage in combat with the man who owns the repeated, and when he draws the rifle, vats and shoot it out of his hands. Then grab the gun, and holster your own weapon. Most of the time, the NCR will stop being hostile.

And another thing, most people don't like them but I do. These are the Authority Glasses, and I think they go well with snipers. You can find a pair on the NCR Ranger, Ghost. You can find her at the mojave outpost on a roof. Make sure your on the other end of the roof and hidden, kill her with a silenced rifle and take the glasses along with a cool ranger outfit and hat.

Have fun with your sniper! Best class to play, imo. If you need any more ideas, just ask.

This is actually my 3rd playthrough and second sniper. I messed up my first one :(. I have all the guns you've listed there but after Fallout 3 I'm tired of using Sniper Rifles. What would you suggest for Mid range combat?

*Facepalm*

Sorry, I assumed you were newbie. :cryvaultboy:

But anyway, marksman carbine/rifle/whatever it's called is a very nice semi-auto, and the unique All American is even better. Assault Carbine is okay, iron sights are kinda bad but it serves its purpose. The machine gun is pretty nice, if you have the strength to use it.

I forgot about the Machine Gun! I'll probably get me one of those. And don't worry about it, ha ha.

I wouldn't only bring the AMR in later levels. While it's great at sneak attacks, it's major overkill for most everything in the game.

Get Repair to 70. Pick up "Hand Loader" perk ASAP.

+50% damage from your .308 weapons with no penalties is too good to pass up.

Well I'm definitely going to use the AMR because I have my characters special based around that. And I'm tired of using Snipers.

If you're tired of the sniper rifles than you could use a scoped hunting rifle and the All American. And I love the AMR, so I'm not trying to knock it at all. If that's what you want than more power to you.

Rifles are too heavy, period.

Some form of SMG (automatic weapon weight ~5lbs) against Cazador, some kind of pistol for Casino/VATS attack, maybe Abilene Kid if you want to kill friendlies for item, and of course light weight sniper rifle or Gobi.

Travel Light is pretty cool, I would up Survival to 55 (with Books, since they are all relatively easy to get) to make Desert Salad and double food healing.

I don't know about the benefits of the Chinese Suit, in comparison to other possible armors I feel it is quite inadequate - especially since the difference in sneak SP levels is a marginal distance.
