Just got this weapon from Max but it has no ammo. Where does the ammo for this gun come from?

There's no way to tell you without a spoiler. Let's just say that there is no ammo for it. It's far from a traditional weapon.

It's far from a reliable one, too. That weapon is heavily bugged.

To get ammo for it....

Spoiler
You have to power up Helios One and redirect power to Archimedes, the C-finder is basically a mini orbital laser

I think i know what you're talking about and i didn't choose "that" option on that particular side quest. So I assume that i cant do anything with it?

It's fun when it works. When I picked that option, the gun just flat out stopped working after a while and I could never get it to function properly again.

I thought it was a bit weird that you could choose the C-Finder enabling option in that quest, but that it never seemed to impact Max's play-time. Would have been messy.

You said it, brother. :cryvaultboy:

To be specific, the problem I had was that it would start the rotating beam animation and I would immediately be given the replacement ammo, which isn't supposed to happen for 24 hours. After that, regardless of what weapon was equipped, I would see the rotating beams wherever I looked and couldn't get rid of them until I went to another cell. Reloading didn't solve it, and it kept happening that way for the rest of the game. :sadvaultboy:

I've heard that Max actually says something along the lines of "It's a good thing the safety was on."

I haven't seen that myself, because I pickpocketed it. :toughninja:

I think you should be able to pass a speech check and trade him a plasma pistol for the C-Finder

For a good option you take out some vital component to where it still has the lightning effect but won't shoot, for an evil option you give him a fully loaded plasma pistol.

If you picked the evil option, next time you pass through Max is crying over a puddle of goo.

Spoiler
if you ever power up archimedes, whatever you could possibly do, save before you fire the thing
the thing is bugged, it may just stop working, which pretty much only works with a restart of the save.
