What happened...

Ok so they told us NV is the ame size as FO3. But if you actually look at the map there's a whole 1/3rd missing off one side. THen if you keep looking there's abunch cut off the east and north too. Heck if you probably added it all up theres nearly 40% of the map unaccessable (just by eyeballing it; could be less)
They cut some corners so to speak.

Any thoughts about this?

I guess there's still as many locations but I thought there would be more mountain territory but it's pretty much just jacobstown (which isn't much of anything)

Were they talking about number of locations?

Here's what I'm wondering: Are both games maps to scale?

IE: If you traveled 5 miles west in Fallout 3, and Fallout New Vegas, would you have covered the same exact distance on the map or would one appear to have cross over the map more so?

...i just realized that... running across the waste takes so much longer than running across fo3 i think... cause i was running to outpost foxtrot.. up in the mountains and it took me like 3 hours.

I know how to test this, but I have to go to work.

You run from one edge of a grid square in FO3 (preferibly in a flat area) and time how long it takes to get to the other side of the grid square. Do the same in F:NV and compare the results.

Took a peek in the new vegas's map - compared to F3, it's actually insanely small.. The thing seems smaller in itself, but when you take the perimeter cutoff into account, it's just.. tiny.

Is it like that in the game too :cryvaultboy: ?

I'd imagine leaving all that space untouched makes it easier to shoehorn in the (inevitable) DLC's.

It doesn't 'feel' like it's smaller to me.
But I could just be wow'd by the newness of NV. ANd I haven't played fallout 3 for any significant ammount of time in over a month.

I'm hoping the scales have just changed.

I would guess that the map would be added to in a future DLC.

I'm pretty sure the map scale is different.

I placed a marker and started going... and I thought I had gotten turned around! I hadn't even gone half the distance in the time I was expecting to!

(and don't forget, you run faster in FNV)

I made a thread about this, it is the most disappointing thing in New Vegas for me. In fact, I think it was probably the only disappointing thing.

This game is huge, but feels about the same if not slightly bigger than Fallout 3. The map looks extended at the outer edges unlike FO3, which allowed you to reach those edges.

If you covered the map, you'll find there's a Northern Access Cave in the North East above the Strip, but it's blocked by boulders and my C4 doesn't work so far. If I could get into that cave. Any ideas, I'm thinking it's a mission required.

And what do the console players do with all that space?

They grab a pipe, their favorite chair and play country with their quitars, telling stories about that mysterious inaccessible territory. No one has ever ventured there, and no one ever came back. Use your imagination folks.
