Bit of a problem with "Render Unto Caesar"

Post » Sat Jan 09, 2010 1:46 pm

Well, I'm up to the "Render Unto Caesar" mission, but I've struck a bit of obstacle in terms of narrative progression. I got "Caesar's Mark", which neutralised my reputation with the Legion, but I felt like maybe finishing a couple of side missions first. Like the Van Graff's missions, for instance. Big mistake.

Long story short, I'm now vilified within the Legion, and I can't ever get close to Caesar without having having several cohorts of Legionnares poking holes in me with machetes and guns. The "Mark" is now utterly useless, as I got the reputation after receiving the Mark. Is there any way to quickly gain face with the Legion, or am I going to have to try and shoot my way through this part of the main story?

Decision and consequence.
I don't think it's possible.
You might be able to if you haven't killed that guy who stands on a roof at cottonwood cove.
Kill a bunch of NCR troopers and bring their dogtags back to him and your Legion fame should go up.

The reputation system has three axis. Helpful, unhelpful, and mixed. At this point, probably the best he can hope for is Wild Child, which probably still won't let you in to see Caesar.

He's going to have to shoot his way in.

I'm actually in Cottonwood Cove right now, but I didn't see anybody on any roofs, although that's probably because once I went in there everybody dropped everything and started shooting at me. I'm a little worried, because I think that now everybody in the Legion is going to attack me on sight (and rightly so, I suppose), but it really doesn't give me a chance to fix my predicament.

Well, the wiki would suggest that the Wild Child status would be neutral, so that should get me in, wouldn't it? It's a start at least. Now all I need to do now is work out how to get them to Idolize me...

I don't know what it should or shouldn't do. On one hand, it's pointless to have the mixed standings if they're no different from the infamous standings. On the other hand, it's basically the unpredictable and untrustworthy labels.

I've heard of people getting into locations but then not being able to get quests with other mixed standings. I don't know if telling you to ruin your NCR standing to collect countless dog tags is a good idea when there's no telling if it'll work or not.

I guess this provokes a question. Do you intend to follow the endings of someone other than the NCR? Because if you're following NCR, you can probably just ignore the whole lot of it.

What part of no spoilers in the General Section do you not understand?

Moving this now.

Whoops. Apologies. I did mention there may be minor spoilers, but I guess that's no excuse. I'll be sure to post anything of this nature under here from now on.

Sorry to bump this thread, but now I have a new problem.

So, failing any option to take the general storyline route, I opted for a massacre at Fortification Hill. I eventually managed to kill Caesar and get the chip back, but the mission didn't recognise me picking up the chip. That's weird, I thought, but I took it back to Mr. House anyway, where he showed me his little Securitrons getting upgraded, and then we returned to the Penthouse where House began talking to me... and then just stopped. When I try to reinitiate the conversation, he just tells me to return to the Fort and go into his bunker. Problem is, obviously he was supposed to give the chip back to me at some point during the post-upgrade conversation, which never happened.

So I can't complete the main storyline, because I don't have the chip, and I can't finish the conversation with Mr. House to get the chip back. Is there any way around this using the console or something?
