Over 50 quests, more even?!

Post » Fri Jan 15, 2010 8:37 pm

Fallout 3 had about 20 or so official quests(without DLC). I am reading reviews the give much larger numbers for New Vegas, is this true? Are they counting things that aren't true quests? Is there more to do it this game than Fallout 3 or not?

Damn! I assumed the content level would have been the same as Fallout 3(It terms of proper quests at the very least), but then if the numbers your giving and what I have read are true, there is an Oblivion level of tasks to complete! I must say I am still skeptical.

Yeah, there's way more quests in NV than in F3. Definitely more marked quests, though not sure about unmarked ones. I think there might be more quests than Oblivion, too - it certainly feels that way. The tradeoff is that there are much fewer random dungeons with no quest or logic attached to them (which were bloody everywhere in F3 and Oblivion), though in my personal opinion that's not a tradeoff at all but a welcome feature.

oblivion had about the same, if not a few more quests than F:NV. i dont know what bethhedia was thinking releaseign a game with 14 quests not attached to the main quest(speaking of f:3)... i mean really?

edit. just checked fallout 3 vault wiki. 17 quests. i was close. thats still not enough.

There is less to explore but more to do, yes. Lots and lots of quests, and they aren't just miniature ones either. By the time you reach your 3rd settlement you could probably have the total number of side quests in Fallout 3 opened up in your pip boy.

more towns too. props to obsidian for that. the player interaction feels more like fallout 1 or a elder scrolls game. there were 2 real towns in fallout 3. megaton and rivit city, and i hated both. depending on character interactions you could "unlock" access to the pentagon and the slaver town.

I looked in the guide book and there are 100 quests that show up in your pip-boy plus many more free quests.

It's an improvement if you ask me... more quests, some of them shorter some of them not but almost all of them well written and entertaining.

Im happy there are so many more quests in NV. FO3 just kind of got boring for me for the fact that it lacked quests and towns. NV has a lot more towns/mini towns to visit and even do quests in, and most of the quests are not small and slow most tend to be pretty long and actually fun.

*SPOILER BELOW*

If you reach level 20 and get the explorer perk you will actually get to see how many places there are to unlock. If you are like me and like to explore and open up all the places then you will be very surprised how many of those you missed once you open up this perk, i missed a lot of places on the lower end of the map and i spent hours going over every inch of the place.

I 100% agree with the above statement, loving this game so far. Even if there a few bugs to squish still.

Personally, I prefer quests with a goal beyond "kill everyone, take things" so having fewer dungeons and more structure sounds A-OK.

I have heard that there are a lot of "fetch" quests, and only a few truly creative/unique ones. Is this true?

Very true, not every quest in NV is "go kill this and That" Most of the time its "go here and bring this back" or "Go here and get these guy's to help us (option) or kill them*. There is a huge diversity in the quests that let you do different things, so when you replay the game your not always doing the same thing in every quests, you have many option's you can do in these quests that will take it a different direction.

I got that perk last night. I couldn't believe how many little spots I missed. So much to do.
