Need help giving the player radiation if they don't have a c

Essentially what I'm trying to do, is make it so the player needs to have a special suit equipped in certain areas or they get like 100 rads a second. It's just one exterior worldspace, and one interior cell. I was thinking of having some kind of thing on the suit where on equip it sets a variable to 1. (unequip would set it to 0) Then if the var is 1, it checks if they are in one of the two places and if so enables a radiation marker and moves it to the player every frame. So they cannot escape the radiation until they go inside a safe area or put the suit back on or something. The only thing is I'm not sure where to find the radiation objects, or exactly how to do this. Could someone give me some pointers on this?
