Action oriented only?

Post » Thu Jan 21, 2010 4:00 pm

I'm a bit concerned about the approach Bethesda is giving to the game. Even though I really like action games, I'd like to see some non-action oriented quests. I'd like to use different skills other the same monster-chopping madness. I don't know if the game will be like that, but playing previous versions makes me unconfortable with the situation.

I remember when I was playing Oblivion that I missed a quest, after the main storyline was completed, to discuss the direction to where the empire was heading. Just a political quest, with lots of important characters defending their interests on what to do next, who's gonna rule, what should change, etc, etc.
It's shame that a game so rich in lore doesn't really allow the player to explore it to it's full potential. A game that tries to bring some of this "polical" style is Mass Effect. Where you discuss not only politics, but moral, ethics, economy and so on. Where you had to make tough decisions and live with it.

So, maybe, if the game becomes a little closer to Fallout's roleplaying style we can expect some of this things Mass Effect had. ....... maybe not!
I guess these kind of quests makes the game more of a role playing experience rather than a random-helping-stranger experience (anyone else noticed that your character was a compulsive favor solver?).

After all I miss little other things like being a notorious criminal. Despite the guards being psychics, in Oblivion we couldn't, for example, climb rooftops to avoid being caught by the guards. And that doesn't really mean that you should be a burglar, the game could have a quest where the duke of the city imposes a curfew. The player should then, try to escape. Etc, etc.

I'm looking for other options to enjoy the game while not necessarily having to kill someone.

Well we can play as a Thief, but dragons will have to be slain.

They have mentioned a lot about puzzles and security and sneaking and smithing and enchanting and alchemy and cooking and farming and mining and conversations and exploring, so I don't think it will be all action. But bare in mind that at it's core the series is an action roleplaying game.

Well it sounds like you'll be able to get a job as a wood-cutter if you want. How's that for non-action? I really don't think you have anything to worry, it looks like there's going to be something for everybody.

Do you have some issue? I mentioned a lot more things than you and added some advice, and I don't care about my post count.

I think the MQ will be more action oriented, but the Guilds will be better defined for specific play types like Warrior, Mage, Thief.

Personally I think there will be enough to do. It can't get much worse than Oblivion after all.

nice job doing the same thing that you are ragging on somebody else for doing.

I don't think that the OP doesn't really need to worry. From what we have heard so far, gamers have plenty of ways to play the game. The Developers suggest that there are puzzles and plenty of other things to work ones mind
