If it's not in the game it would really be a step back in my opinion.

I hate how there's one buyable house in every city, it makes it seem very ordered and unrealistic imo. Just like it was made for you. I would rather it not feel that way.

Maybe two/three different houses in one city and none in another. I know it limits you, but so does not having a shop every three meters down the road. One in every city just feels so fake.

I would more choices for houses and houses that are MUCH more expensive and rewarding.

I like this

Doesn't matter to me if its 1 home or 100. If they don't do something about item placement, the only good a house will do me is to act as one gigantic chest.

Second this

Can we hire serfs to work on our property/farms and collect the humble loot?

You could own property in all three elder scrolls games Ive played, Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion so I would be flabbergasted if in Skyrim you could not.
I cant wait to see what the new system will look like as in each game they improved very much on the last installment.

Could you explain this a bit further? I keep finding several different ways to interpret your meaning

I'd like to see a much more fleshed-out property system. I know in Skyrim when a store-owner dies, a new NPC takes over. This could mean that property is much more streamlined, and it could be possible to own a wide variety of houses.

If not, mods are sure to add that functionality.

I think a property system should include being able to own shops & hire NPCs to run them. Either by Buying an existing shop or converting a house into a shop.

Agree with an expanded property system. Maybe a NPC moves to another town or gets another house within the town that they reside. Property can become available for any number of reasons aside from the death of the owner. Or an owner could be bought out with a generous sum of money if they aren't too attached.

Just a reminder- alot of us are on consoles. Mods only refer to PC users. DLC is for everyone without restriction, & it does not always have to come with a price tag.
Let's keep everyone in mind, not just our individual platforms.

I found the Oblivion houses rather unsatisfying. Your first house was neat but after that it was just a septim sink. Upgrading it with furniture was ok but it felt more like a necessity than a progressive upgrade. I enjoyed Morrowind's Stronghold system much more (and the town in Bloodmoon). Make you work for it. Do quests, defend it. It made you feel proud of what you had.

Although the option to buy land and property is intriguing. Especially if you could customize your holdings in some way. For example, someone with high enough Mercantile (assuming it's not being removed) could plop a store down on their house. From there you can invest in the store, watch it grow, count your septims, order exotic stock, etc.

What I mean is that item placement in Oblivion svcked because all objects were affected by physics. In Morrowind I'd put a pearl on my desk and it stayed there. In Oblivion I put a pearl on my desk and it rolled around, banged into stuff, causing everything to slide around and generally make a mess. Sure they had display cases, but being angled, they were useless. All your stuff would slide to the bottom. It was borderline impossible to do something as simple as placing gems in a bowl. Even if you could place items just the way you want them, if you accidentally bumped one, you could kiss your whole display goodbye.

So when it comes to Skyrim, it doesn't matter how many houses they allow you to buy, or where they are. If the item placement is the same as Oblivions, I'll only be using the house for its extra crates. To me, that's a damnable shame.

There are a lot of good ideas going here. The more of these things that can be put in, the more believable and engaging the world will seem.

Todd, I hope you are taking notes!

I think I should be able to live in ANY house as long as I kill its previous owner(s). Once they are dead, the chests in their house should stop respawning, and their beds should be able to be slept in! Now, how cool would this be?

There will probably be one available house in each of the five major towns.

I'm guessing the same thing, plus a couple guild related homes... i hope..

Not guild homes, but guilds themselves will have beds and crates for you....same as before.
Although I like your idea better.
